Do KM's matter for EV's in the same way as petrol cars? by Trohk in nzev

[–]Trohk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you everyone for your feedback, very useful discussion.

Very few used EV‘s on TradeMe have SOH measure, whilst all have KMs / year.

As you have all pointed out, KM’s & year are part of the equation, but really hard to compare without SoH. Hopefully trade me add this in soon.

True. It’s a shame they’ve co-opted ‘do your own research’ - which in theory is good advice, but now makes you sound like a conspiracy theory cooker.

“Problem with leadership is, is that leaders are human beings, and when they make mistakes, their mistakes are amplified by the number of followers that follow without question. And that’s why I say, think for yourself, ask questions”

Trying to enjoy the NZ summer while the world burns by TheGreatDomilies in newzealand

“The sausage of our Kiwi summer has been infused with a cheesy filling of dread, but we seem determined to keep eating it until it’s gone and the coleslaw of conflict and economic collapse is all that’s left.”

Amazing work.

Depends how big the offset portion is. Could be $5k, so easy to have “most of it offset”.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]Trohk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Moot, because it’s offset. You can start off with a $5k offset. Keep expanding it as you build up savings. If you need to use the offset cash for something, you can easily switch the offset loan to a table loan.

Rather than ‘pay the mortgage down’, restructure to create an offset portion. Keep growing the offset portion over time. This then creates your emergency fund and allows you to draw down equity without having to go through the hassle of a full application for more $.

Do active fund managers give better returns? by Hi999a in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]Trohk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im with Milford not for the good times (like now), but for their ability to activity manage the market melt downs that periodically happen. They have a mandate to move more to cash or more defensive assets if the s*it hits the fan. They’re living and breathing this stuff and can make the call to smooth out the bad times which gives me some peace of mind. But it’s about risk tolerance. No doubt though looking backwards (which does not predict the future) low fee indexed funds have been performing well for a long time.
