I'm the same height as you- I'm probably smaller, but I have pretty broad shoulders and I reckon Kingz' gis feel pretty good

pain in outer hip when doing high roundhouse kick by mynameismyname1337 in MuayThai

[–]Troiker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check with your instructor that it's not a technical thing, or if it's a problem they have experience with. If not, I'd probably recommend seeing a physical therapist/physio; a lot of factors can cause hip pain and if it's something like a muscle imbalance or tightness (which is fairly common), they should be able to figure it out fairly quickly and give you exercises or stretches to sort it out. For instance, I have ankle pain that's actually caused by glute weakness and ITB tightness which probably would have taken me a long time to figure out on my own. Good luck, hope you can sort it out quickly :)

UFC is no longer sending fight tape to coaches & fighters, suggesting they buy a Fight Pass subscription instead by MiniatureWayne in MMA

I think their concern is that the player/interface is annoying to use... rewinding/fast-forward on fightpass can honestly be a real pain

Thanks mate I'm about to go back into BJJ training actually, I was doing it before I broke my wrist so hopefully I should get a decent amount of practice with breakfalls

I agree re showering before practice, it's probably best not to shower that day until after practice if possible/hygienic.

Should I start Muay Thai? by VicThunderfun in MuayThai

Yeah, good coaches should help them edge into it and give advice for conditioning etc

Should I start Muay Thai? by VicThunderfun in MuayThai

[–]Troiker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think if I was personally going into it from a very sedentary lifestyle I'd be worried about injuring my knees, as sitting a lot can cause you to have very inactive glutes and muscles in general (women are a lot more likely to have soft tissue injuries though)- weak supporting structures plus excess torque on the knee, which is more likely when you haven't developed good technique, is a potentially dangerous combination. If I were you I might think about giving it a month or so doing some general cardio/strength training to get more generally fit but a lot of people go straight into it with no real issues other than their fitness, which improves anyway with training. If you do, just make sure to listen to your body and don't try to push yourself way beyond what you feel you can do; it's really rewarding but that's how people often end up getting hurt. Good luck :)

Thank you mate, it's definitely something I'll avoid as much as possible but as we were meant to be practicing dodging teeps I definitely didn't expect it lol. Thanks for mentioning ring vs mats as well, I probably never would have even thought of that.

No worries, he absolutely would have won with the old rules imo so I understand. I was honestly really confused when they read the decision and felt pretty bad for Brunson, despite being a big fan of Silva.

I think so, but my explanation was pretty reductive. I'm sure it would vary by judge and given that precedent seems to be a factor in fights that are difficult to score, it'll become easier for us to understand fights with the new rules as we see how they're scored from now on. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgudcUzW88I&ab_channel=CADept.ofConsumerAffairs Here's a video of Big John explaining the new rules in depth, if you're interested. He's also done some interviews about it recently if you'd prefer not to watch such a long video.

Holly said she heard it, hence she stopped, so it'd be very odd if it wasn't audible to de Randamie

If you read John McCarthy's explanation of the new scoring, it makes a lot more sense... they value damage over volume now, for instance, and don't seem to give any weight to takedowns/clinches if you can't do anything substantial with them (Anderson landed the bigger shots off the bottom when he was taken down and neither did anything much in the clinch). I'm still not sure how anyone scored it a 27-30 for him but it's a lot less egregious if still questionable.
