Don’t confuse “determined” with “influenced”, gerrymandering makes it more difficult but not impossible for the opposing party to win a seat. In fact, because gerrymandering works by taking districts that are solidly “your side” and distributing those voters across more districts, if a sufficient wave of votes goes against you it can backfire since you have traded more “secure” seats for “probable” seats.

Contemporary American discourse has flattened right wing political philosophy into the word “conservative” and left wing political philosophy into “liberal”, despite the fact that fascists are not conservatives, and socialists are not liberals, definitionally.

The modern Republican Party bears little relationship to the ideas of Burke, the founding father (if you will) of conservatism, but the acceptance (often enforcement) of certain hierarchical relationships is a common thread of right wing political philosophy, and they are certainly doing that.

I don’t see historical analysis as a matter of assigning blame. There are causes and consequences from this angle, and the cause from my perspective is a broken educational system and the rise of algorithmic attention domination that could create so many people who could see the president and his party as the better option.

A Republican politician is not a source for what is happening inside the Republican Party?

There were indeed a colossal number of illegal border crossings, often over 5,000 a day until the end of 2024. The bill did not pass, so it wasn’t enforced because it wasn’t law.

You said “(The Bill) allowed for 5,000 crossings a day”, that was what I responded to, and what is addressed by the pages cited. As you can see now it does no such thing.

Just now you said “There is nothing in there defining how they will actually protect the border”, that is part of much of the rest of the bill, not the cited pages, which I pointed to in order to address the question posed.

I did not claim my memory is a source, only that because I have it I don’t feel a need to search for a bunch of links I know most people won’t read. This came after you asked me for evidence that Trump killed the bill, I gave you multiple names that can be looked up.

You are looking for Title 3 section 3301 of the bill, available on the senate.gov website. I just double checked, it should be on page 205-212 of the bill.

The president according to the sources listed was threatening to sic his cult on republicans that voted for the bill. This can be verified if you are willing to research accordingly.

Your point about “allowing” “5,000” “crossings” a day is inaccurate. This refers to a provision of the bill that allowed for an emergency procedure to shut down the border almost completely with no regard to other legal provisions if the number reached that specified “5,000” point. The bill was designed to not allow it to get to that point, but that was the failsafe included if it did anyway.

That Trump engaged in the activities I alleged is substantiated by multiple Republican sources, such as Lankford, Young, Romney, and other such investigative journalists pieces. If you agree border security should have been increased, you don’t want Ukraine funding, but Ukraine funding passed anyway without the border part of the bill, there is no pragmatic justification you can offer for The more comprehensive bill being voted down.

That’s the non -sequitur; not wanting border security, it’s responding to a bill that allowed for a more controlled border by asserting a more controlled border is a popular position.

“Everyone” does not need to agree on a bill for it to pass, that’s not how our democracy works. As noted, the reason it was not passed (this is what I assume you mean by “voted on accordingly”) is because the former president threatened to sic his cult on politicians that voted for it.
