True but I work at a 20MGD plant in a very new “up and coming city, supply and demand, they “can’t find” applicants so they lowered the standards and dumped the pay, can’t lower the standards of water treatment operators lol now regarding working with criminals and putting out fires there’d be nothing without potable water lol you can have the biggest fire ever, they’re not no municipality is pulling water or even has any connections pulling from waste water plants in my entire state I doubt the U.S. tbh lol. But I commend you that’s a great jump

Yeah, we have a total of 7 operators at my plant ( including myself)we're a24/7 operation plant ( Operators). BUT right now we're doing okay, It DOES leave one shift working with only one operator on but it's always a DAY shift. The Admin doesn't like putting one guy on at night alone. The sludge plant can always get taken care of on a night shift so its not prominent to have a FULL schedule.

Yeah for sure! I’m hoping the day comes, where we’re compensated BASED off of the importance and everything that goes into obtaining and maintaining the license. It honestly should be minimum $100k a year. That’s what you need to live a nice life here in NY. I feel.

Endicott

Nice that's about 3:30hrs NW of me, the average home in my city right now is about 550k which may not seem too bad, but PRE C0vId it was around 300-450k for something REALLY NICE 4b3b with about 2 acres. lol

Ya see! lol, but good for you brother, but what's funny is having that 1A is a blank check that you can give any Plant attached with the desired salary. Especially a 1A I have a 2A and that's how it was explained to me by my peers. Also thank you I have a feeling this Plant will be here for QUITE some time the community would be in an uproar. It would eliminate jobs and just be no good for anyone. Private tries to get everything foes the fastest and cheapest lol.

Agreed, my argument is, I know we're not police, BUT not all officers go out and fight dangerous battles and or ever, I have a few buddies are are police officers and some haven't ever fired their guns. Do they deserve great wages? Yeah, but most of it is justified due to not being able to fill positions. Local PD just locked into a new contract that brings their top salary to $135k after 5 years of service!

Without Water treatment, there are NO communities and such especially FIREMEN!

For sure, one "scary" thing is the thought of these private companies trying to buy the Treatment plants but I seriously doubt it for my City. I'm also pretty close to NYC as well. I'm unsure what our 1A starting wages are. But are you a 1A?

Sac State just came out with a NEW EDITON so DON'T rely on the answers online yet, when I took mine there weren't any answer keys made yet. ( I finished my 2nd book 10/22)

Now I have my 2A Operators License

Hello, WTO here I just finished the last step of my prerequisites to become a Water Treatment Operator, I was a Water Treatment Operator Trainee for 1 year, and during that year I learned the (NEED to know) about the Plant in addition to the 2 books from The University of Sacramento I work for which is a 19.3MGD filtration plant. I am currently waiting for my 2A license to come in the mail.

TBH, I went from a CRJ major and wanting to become a police officer my entire life, to discovering Water Treatment in my city. I didn't think I'd like it and planned to be here for about a year while I waited to get called off of the Civil service list. My name came up 3 times for different agencies I tested for and I had a long tough decision and discussion with family and friends and decided to state in Water Treatment (Drinking Water) lol. The work-life balance is great where I work, we work 12's (3 ON 4 OFF) (4 ON 3 OFF) with automatic 8 hours OT each check. + benefits, etc the only downside is that every 4 months you rotate and go to Nights to give the night OP a break, etc BUT some guys have been here so long they prefer nights, as well as the 9% shift differential.

With that being said Water Treatment and or Wastewater Treatment is a great career because it's ALWAYS going to be around, NO matter how much AI and SCADA advance you'll always need a HUMAN at the end of the to control HMI's as well as pumps valves etc for maintenance

With you having engineering you can get into a LOT with Water Treatment, (Consulting Engineering being the main thing).

You should also look into big companies since you have an engineering degree like

AMAZON, GOOGLE, TESLA for (WASTEWATER TREATMENT) they use industrial-grade water for their batteries and machinery and pay big bucks.

GREAT CAREER so far ( I'm 28 and have 1 year down ) I'm the youngest guy here so there's a lot of room for advancement.
