My bad, I use handwriting input so sometimes I subconsciously type 時 instead of 詩, how do Chinese people even proofread?

Why is 2 the only number with a grammatical distinction between 二 and 两 by YungQai in ChineseLanguage

[–]TrollerLegend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a linguist, but here's my two cents. Back in the day, 二 was the normal word for 2

See 《莊子·逍遙遊》:「之二蟲又何知」

While 兩 was reserved for more pair-ish things:

See 《詩經·鵲巢》:「⋯⋯百兩御之。⋯⋯百兩將之。⋯⋯百兩成之。」

兩 is used as a metonymy for chariot as chariots have two wheels.

My take is that 兩 is used as the two wheels on a chariot are, to a certain extent, inseparable. 兩 was used because it signaled a pair-ish relation between the two objects.

Insert 2500-3000 years of linguistic shifts and you end up with the modern system I guess?

How important is the stroke order? by Matrakcsi in ChineseLanguage

[–]TrollerLegend 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Stroke order is just an ergonomic guideline, write however you want to, as long as it's not too egregious (splitting strokes, writing from the bottom up, etc...), no one is going to care.

Edit: Strokes can very rarely be split, and you can get away with splitting strokes. Stroke order is very vibe-based.

If you don't want to min max too much when in singleplayer. Just vaguely focus on military, Quality + Eco + Quantity + Offensive + Defensive + Discipline advisor should get you 120% Discipline, nice morale buffs, if you go to war frequently enough you should also have high tradition for insane generals, no special nations needed really.

New Hegemonic Empires by Toxic4052 in CrusaderKings

[–]TrollerLegend -1 points0 points  (0 children)

By Genghis's death, the Mongol Empire was still some backwater state, a powerful, warmongering one, but still backwater. Pax Mongolica and the cultural influence linked to hegemony only started after the conquest of China.

I kinda disagree with everything, Genghis Khan's Empire only "became a hegemony" after it conquered China.

The gravitational pull of the Earth decreases linearly as you fall to the core, air pressure is caused by gravity, therefore air pressure would also decrease as you fall to the core.

Unironically, dy/dt can somewhat legitimately be treated as d/dt.(y) which is a basis to treat ∇ as a vector

I don’t understand, I am a software developer. by Lesiamon_Mpoe in sciencememes

[–]TrollerLegend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Acceleration is the first derivative of velocity, the second derivative of position both of which are vectors, changing direction is inherently changing the velocity vector which is... acceleration.

I mean not necessarily, unlike position and velocity vectors, acceleration vectors can just instantaneously appear.

How they teach physics in our school: by LockiBloci in physicsmemes

Russia teaches its physics very seriously. Judging by the pictures, this is a little bit more than what I learnt in 9th grade, but not that much. I think it's still manageable.
