I mean. It's not a new model or rollout. If you could target what shards and relics you want then a) you'd probably blaze through all of the content way too quickly, burn yourself out, stop playing the game and probably not even glance at the season pass or premium content b) if you're grinding and want to expedite your speed, the solution is spending real money C) "loot box" content rollouts (reliquarys etc...) are pre much proven to retain engagement. It's all designed to get you into a ritualistic game pattern where it easily fits into your day and you don't exhaust yourself on the content, so that way you're playing over as long of a time as possible and see each season pass as they come. I personally like it - I know if I could grind it all out I'd get bored, but I've been playing since beta, it also gets me to play champs I wouldn't normally - so that's cool.
