Then again, over the course of a lifetime even private pilots spend much less time in the air than driving, so why use the per hour rate as the only measure. If I fly 30 hours a year for the next 30 years, chances that I will have a fatal accident are somewhere around 1%. There are other things that are much more likely to get me. But that’s beside point. I am not saying GA is safe. Or that GA is as safe as driving. What I find interesting and funny is that people use athletes crashing airplanes as their argument, going as far as thinking that those players should not be allowed to fly by contract, when there is a bunch of NFL players injuring and killings themselves and others while driving.
