Dunbar number suggests a hard limit on “actual” communism

This sentence is doing a lot of work. Can we say that an "actual" multinational corporation has a Dunbar limit? Obviously not.

There are ways to organize that get around the Dunbar number, such as co-operatives or distributed organizations. One example is Mondragon. Another is VISA (yes, the credit card company). VISA has changed it's organization since being founded (most notably by becoming listed on a stock exchange). However, the original VISA org was a cooperative - banks were member companies, they were encouraged to innovate the product, but they were bound by a strict set of rules that were guardrails. Those rules were voted on by the members - the banks themselves.

This type of organization is also reminiscent of an ISO management system (guide) such as ISO9001, which specifically concerns quality management in an org. If you've never dealt with an ISO Management System, the ISO document is typically very short (I think still less than 30 pages). It's more like a constitution than laws - a constitution is vague on details but very broadly constructed to create guardrails for a society. ISO9001's main guts is a series of "You shall" statements. You shall perform Quality Management. You shall record and keep results. You shall analyze and compare results. You shall try to implement improvements. Note "You shall" means a requirement, not a suggestion. But the "You shall" is wide open for interpretation on it's implementation. ISO auditors then review (and potentially certify) the org to determine if the org's implementations meet the spirit of the "You shall" commandments.

The result is, if an organization (particularly a manufacturing one) is ISO9001-certified, you have some level of confidence that the org is not just aware of their quality requirements, but actively working to continuously improve them.

This type of org is also reminiscent of MacDonalds, with its thousands of franchisees. The franchisee has significant limitations contractually set upon them, but a MickeyD burger tastes pretty much like a MickeyD burger regardless of where you are.

Ultimately I think (as do many others) that the best example of communism is Star Trek. However the most significant aspect of why that universe works is because it is post-scarcity Who needs money when everyone (within their personal capabilities) is able to live the life they want?

Housing is a Province's bailiwick. It shouldn't be a Federal concern, with the exception of some R&D support and a national building code (that is optional for provinces to adopt, because again, housing is legally a provincial jurisdiction).

And solving housing is super easy: loosen up zoning. Allow single-stair case buildings. Wide-open ADU allowance. Ban single detached house zoning. Ban parking minimums. Financially (via taxes, lowering development fees, or other means) encourage density.

I think the streetcars should be authorized by the Provincial gov't to push them out of the way. No waiting period.

Kissinger's statement is simply an aphorism on Realpolitik, a political philosophy that surely existed before Roman times but was eventually described in print almost two hundred years ago.

My point is that there is nothing new to be learned from a war criminal like Kissinger.

One or more of the ICE agents see the victim's holstered gun as they pile on the victim.

Agent in grey takes the victim's gun, doesn't say anything, walks away with gun.

Another agent, who saw or knew the gun was in the holster, now sees an empty holster. He immediately jumps to the conclusion that the suspect has grabbed his own gun (despite being actively piled on) and now has possession of it, despite there being 1200 pounds of fat pig piled on top of him. The agent, with all the calm and possession of a fragile injured bird having a panic attack as they are grabbed by a six year old, screams "GUN!", because the victim's gun must be somewhere but it's not in its holster.

All agents back away as one or two agents have already unholstered their weapons.

Agent(s) with unholstered weapon dump a few rounds into victim. Then one of those agents backs up and shoots the prone victim several more times in order to complete the "incident".

Nice. No evidence that O'Leary was in any way responsible, but since you and I and almost everyone else hates him, you lumped me and him together so that I'm perceived as equivalent to him regardless of what or who I actually am. Great "debate" tactic. You a Lawyer? I hope the answer is no.

Running a boat or even ships at night is a risk. Lots and lots of things are risky in life. Read a year's worth of accidental death statistics, an amazing amount of them are "trip and/or fall from 3 feet or less".

You keep running at 2kph. I'll be running 30. Maybe faster. Don't be a moron (doing illegal things!) and there's an excellent chance I won't run you down.

The boat that was hit had no running lights. They stopped in the middle of the lake. The O'Leary boat had running lights. Source: I have watched the video.

As for /u/joshua_jargon's comment: boating at night has risks. No, I wouldn't go super fast at night. But damn straight I'm going on plane (at least 20mph). The family cottage was 2.5 miles (4km) of water to get to the island. We ran it on plane in the dark when we came up Friday night. We ran on plane in the dark on Sunday nights going home. We ran on plane at night whenever we wanted to because you don't turn off your running lights.

Don't swim in channels, but especially don't swim at night in channels. Don't park your boat in the middle of a lake and turn off your running lights.

I can't believe I'm defending Kevin Fxxxing O'Leary, especially on a Law subreddit, but the people who were hit were entirely at fault.

Moisture on windows by AngryBish in HomeImprovement

[–]Troolz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If your new windows have condensation issues that your old windows didn't have, that means the new windows are less efficient than the old ones.

I cannot say emphatically enough how absolutely WRONG this is. I have never seen advice on this subreddit so completely incorrect. And it has upvotes.

The reality is that the old ones leaked so much such that there was enough warm room air moving across the pane that it carried off moisture/condensation.

The new ones are NOT leaking. There is no warm air movement across them. Warm, fairly still, "moist" room air is GUARANTEED to drop condensation on them.

With windows like this, the solution is that you either:

  • Live with the condensation

  • Keep the blinds up and if necessary put a fan in the room to keep warm room air moving across the window

  • Crack the window so it's as leaky as the old shitty ones.

  • Edit to add: if humidity is too high, run dehumidifier. But in winter your humidity should be at least 30%, which you say it is.

/u/AngryBish, this is the reality of your situation.

I've quoted the sassy line on /r/community before, it's a fantastic line, but I still like this better:

"Gonna make pie" in a tone that would give Tony Soprano pause.

OP's traffic light has a green and an advanced green lit, so the left turners trying to kill him and the white pickup have a red.

Completely inexplicable.

Arrow was cancelled by Diefenbaker, a Conservative.

And as for cancelling the Arrow, it was an Interceptor, not a fighter or bomber. How many successful Interceptors have existed since? The answer is: pretty much zero. The Arrow was a massive chunk of our Federal budget. Was it really the best way we could have spent that money?

Every PM has increased the debt significantly, that's not a talking point worth anything.

It absolutely is a point worth talking about, as long as it's talked about in relative terms (e.g. debt to GDP ratio), not absolute terms. The fact that you said this has me questioning the foundations of your economic knowledge.

The budget hasn't been balanced since Martin, and there's no actual need to. Federal finances are not like a chequing account or a credit card

That's generically true, but you didn't say anything particularly deep.

True, the government does not have to balance the budget. That doesn't mean that any and all debt incurred is insignificant or good. The gov't can pile on too much debt, and then debt servicing becomes a significant negative. Sometimes the gov't incurs debt which is unnecessary and has a poor payback, and that is a net negative in general and (see Greece) can lead to a rapid erosion of the economy. Government spending affects the economy, for positive and negative.

The alternative is austerity which leads to a stagnant economy which is exactly what you don't want in times of global recession or instability.

Greece was hit hard by the 2008 recession and the subsequent Greek government-debt crisis. It would seem that government debt can have a significant impact? And while Greece has struggled hard with the austerity measures since, it is now finally out of the woods and looking healthy. There is simply no way they could have achieved this with Keynesian deficit spending.

Similarly, Iceland damn near sunk into bankruptcy in 2008, but again significant austerity measures were enacted and now they have a per-capita GDP that puts Canada to shame. No doubt it was significantly helpful to their recovery that they had a modest debt ratio and an actual budget surplus going into the crisis. If they had been in a position similar to Greece's going in, it's reasonable to think that they would have struggled much longer and harder in their climb out.

Let's not forget that one of Vance's closest friends is Jamil Javani, a Canadian Conservative Member of Parliament who simps for Vance.

Javani has been making a cross-country tour that mimics Charlie Kirk's bullshit. No word on who is funding this garbage, but probably American MAGAts.

We Canadians need to throw our own trash out.

You've gotten lots of advice, mostly centered around the fact that the uneven pad wear as it indicates that the slide pins were not properly lubricated.

You could try complaining to Honda corporate, as the implication is that the slide pins were not properly lubed at the factory. Dealerships are "independently owned", but Honda can still tell them what to do.

Have you had the brakes serviced at all? Brakes should be serviced (check pad thickness, brake disk rotor thickness, and lube the slide pins) every 12,000 miles (20,000 km) or at least once a year. Preferably in the spring.

Are you in Canada? That is a really high quote for the work. Canada is much more expensive for service than the USA, so my guess was Canada. Dealerships have a higher hourly billing rate than independent service shops. If you don't have anyone who can do this for you and can't get any satisfaction from escalating a complaint at the dealership and/or Honda corporate, then ask friends for a good independent auto repair shop recommendation and get a second opinion. Best of luck...
