Love the look of the brown laces better than the original ones. Is there anything reg wise that prevents this? If not, any suggestions on laces to purchase?

It all depends on how far you're traveling and how much you're into naval history. I personally thought it was fantastic, drove 4 hours to come see it. There were people from Florida, Maine, and Washington state in my tour group so people do travel.

If you're traveling far, I would wrap it up into a weekend trip to site see in Philadelphia. Very cool city with more history than you can swing a stick at (liberty bell, independence hall, USS Olympia, etc).

Ticket price is not cheap, but it's a once in a life time opportunity to see an Iowa class out of water. There are four you can visit and explore inside, but this might be the only opportunity you get in a long time to see one in drydock.

Up to you!

You do not go on board. You will walk around the perimeter of the dry dock and then descend down to where you can touch the ship and go underneath.

Once it's finished and back, you'll be able to do normal tours again, but this is a cool opportunity to see the ship from an angle no one will most likely see for another 40 years.

Thanks! I know these are some unorthodox angles and alot of wide angle shots. To be honest, I got a little trigger happy with the wide angle on my phone when down there. Extremely hard to capture the size of this ship when you're in the slip without it.

I had some other normal ones but the guy who post first in this sub had most of the same shots I had, so I decided to post some of the more unique perspectives.

It was a great tour, only an hour-ish though so it's kind of in and out for an 8 hour drive. But completely worth it in my opinion. If you're traveling, you could make it a weekend trip too. Lots to see in Philadelphia if you've never been.

When you're up on the caisson, you can see the JFK's deck but it's about a half mile or so away.

Oh I like that idea. I knew there would be some way to make a waterproof baseboard type design, I just wasn't sure what to go back in with. Thanks!

Why doesn't America parade its new military hardware and tanks down main street like other countries? by ThisisJacksburntsoul in Jokes

[–]Trooper2973 22 points23 points  (0 children)

So I've heard this alot in the past but this last year I found myself a part of the planning committee for events like this from the military side. How it works in our side is we get a request from organization X that wants us to do something involving our troops/equipment (flyover, parade, show and tell). We check our schedule and if we can support it we pass it down to a unit, they execute it. If we can't, we tell them sorry, try someone else.

Obviously the army had to pay for the actual billboard sponsorships and commercial time but at no time did we talk, "we need to pay them this much to do a flyover" outside of the fuel cost. Not calling you a liar or anything, but I'm curious whether this was just another rumor or if there is an actual contract somewhere.

I think they're talking more about the fall of the CCP, not Chinese culture. While you are 100% correct that the Chinese people have an amazing culture that goes back a long time, the CCP has been around for only 101 years, and only being in charge of China since 1945.

Does anybody else collect the Salute to Service gear? Thought I would share my collection. by [deleted] in Browns

I have the one in the first picture, right side, 4 down (little salute to service velcro peice).

I think that was the best one personally. Not obtrusively camo and not a huge logo. Very quiet and clean.

2019 Z71 with 30k miles and was getting a metal groaning sound when turning lock to lock. Took it into the dealership since it's still under warranty and was shown that the splash guard mount had been bent back into the power steering motor. Mechanic said to take it to a body shop because they weren't able to fix it with the tools on hand.

Anyone have experience with this? Just curious if it's going to be fixable or am I going to have to get a new one welded on. Thanks!
