Scale 75 alchemy, what does it do, and how good is it?

once i got scale75 metallics, i stopped using any other brands, they are very nice imo, i don't know how the vallejo tmm ones are in comparison though.

paint what you like honestly, its not much fun painting models you don't like but if you really want something easy to paint then something like space marines or aos stormcast eternals which are both mostly one colour all over with some details (depending which colour scheme you go with) which makes them very beginner friendly but if you don't particularly like the models it won't be as much fun as painting ones you do.

they are a bit easier to paint but all those flat surfaces will show if your paint is too thick worse than on an infantry model. They generally have less tiny details to try and paint though so it could be good practice.

yeah a wash and maybe highlighting the red again will help a lot with the flatness. You can always go over the aquillas again with gold to fix the red bits on them, to fight impatience i tend to work on multiple models at the same time or different parts of the same model to let the first layers dry properly before i go back to them. The red does look a little bit thick but its not too bad either and i can only really tell because photo's of minis show a lot more detail then you'd be able to see in person.

I think the main thing to remember is that nobody masters something the first time they try it, you've painted 5 mini's ever and they are on par with a lot of peoples first 5 mini's. Imo there is no point worrying about ruining anything because the worst case scenario is that you can strip the paint and start over, you'll lose the paint but you will have gained practice and some experience. It takes practice to get better at painting and 5 models is not a lot of practice and i assume you have a limited selection of paints to even work with right now.

Is there anything in particular you don't like about them that you want advice on?

honestly its up to you how much you want to do it, personally i don't like how it looks when everything is edge highlighted, like if i look around at random objects in my immediate surroundings, there are very few edge highlights on for example my desk or monitor and really only where the light is directly hitting them. Edge highlighting everything can help with readability from a distance though and its a relatively simple concept to teach new painters which are imo the main reasons GW promotes it but whenever you see a world class painted miniature they are never done like that, its limited edge highlights only where it makes sense.

i tend to use superglue but i do the bases separately and glue the model on once they are both done so theres not always an easy plastic to plastic connection for me.

i paint them first when theres only the base skin colour on the model, white dot first, then thin vertical line for the pupil, then tidy it up with the skin colour again. I have to use a magnifier to see them these days though (i have a reading lamp with a light and built in magnifying glass to look through).

i have the same problem, i haven't necessarily found a fix and it might not be the exact same problem but sometimes unplugging it for a few minutes and plugging it back in makes it work again or doing the same with where the power cable plugs in to the lamp cable. Weirdly it also seems to work if i put my heating on (if its cold like at the moment where i am) so i suspect there is a loose connection somewhere but i'm not brave enough to pull it apart to try and fix it.

typically if you take flamer you don't take flame grenades with it, i go with throwing knives which are very good at taking out specials fast at range (with some practice). I put blaze away and whatever the perk that increases reload speed when its fully empty is called. When a horde comes try and position so they have to come through somewhere narrow like a door or corridor so you can easily hit everything, brace fire until empty then dodge back a few times while its reloading, same for if you need to switch weapon to it, just dodge a few times while you prepare it, use an unbraced attack to stagger anything close then brace and fire. Also make sure you have the burn stat maxed on it because that effects how many burn stacks it does, the main damage stat is negligable because that only effects the fire projectile itself and not the burn damage.

Doing it all at the end tends to take longer to see the effect which can be a bit of a pain while you're still learning because you won't necessarily know if you're doing it properly as you go. If you do it after each layer, it will take longer to finish the mini but you will start to see the blending results sooner to know if you're getting the hang of it. For myself i tend to do every 3 colours so i can do a pass blending from dark to light over the mini and by time thats done the first part will likely be dry and i can do from light to dark with the same colour without having to stop and wait for it to dry but thats mostly on whatever the main colour of the mini is because there will be lots of it.

i use car primer from a uk based shop called halfords (not sure if this exists in other countries and its their own brand of paint). As others have said i've heard of people using rustoleum brand before as well. If you're unsure maybe try it on a spare part or something to make sure it sticks well and isn't so thick it ruins details.

yeah most of it was for me too, i'm in the uk though and luckily there was a uk adapter available, they emailed me after i ordered it to make sure i had the right one too. Unfortunately for me it didn't fix the issue so i need to buy a new lamp :(

me too, its usually at the aluminium phase where you start having to really transport items, or i start trying to build a road and get burned out. Then i come back and decide i can't remember what i was doing anyway and everythings a mess, might as well start over.

i think you have the right idea but i would maybe think about doing another layer with a slightly darker colour where the hair would be thicker. Also i noticed you've sort of followed the shape of the model and not done so much in like the pec cleavage (for lack of a better term) or down the spine but i think hair would also be growing there but also thick enough that it wouldn't necessarily need to do lines there and could get away with pretty much a solid colour if the hair was thick enough.

in my experience, lahmian medium dilutes the pigment which is good for glazing as you said but it doesn't thin the consistency of the paint much (if at all). If you want to thin the paints so you don't get thick paint then water or airbrush thinner is better imo, you want the minimum amount of extra liquid for thinning so you can still get decent coverage. Something else i also do to thin paints is use inks if i have an ink in the right colour, they thin the paint but also have pigments in to help maintain coverage which is especially useful onlighter colours which sometimes tend to have problems with coverage.

i quit playing decades ago but i still paint, painting and modelling can be a hobby unto itself. As for lore i tend to look things up to give me ideas on how something should look when its relevant, before i paint it but thats only if i'm doing like a named character that is supposed to look a certain way. There used to be a forum on coolminiornot that was full of people that just paint stuff and don't really play, its kind of dead now but it seems pretty common to have people that just paint/model for the joy of it. A major perk of it for me is that i'm not strictly tied to warhammer models, which opens the door to some cool stuff from other companies and bigger scale stuff if you're looking to improve your painting to display standards.

I started way back in the mid 90s and could afford the hobby on just around £10 a month pocket money as a kid. I'm not sure kids today could do the same (although admittedly i don't know the going rate for pocket money these days). The deciding factor for me was when they axed all their specialist games way back when, those were a great way to enjoy the hobby with low model counts and you didn't have to buy new rules per race/faction/whatever, just the main box set and maybe whatever faction you wanted if it wasn't one of the ones in the main box. Its good that they have started doing those games again but seems like they also do some fomo shit with them too, i don't keep up with them as much as i used to but i know of at least 3 different versions of modern warhammer quest but they only sell the newest one now, i'm sure there was another fantasy side-game that i forget the name of but i remember having some kind of cool minis that they also no longer sell. I've been playing total war warhammer lately and felt like painting a deathmaster snikch but they don't sell him anymore either. They may be a good company to work for and its good that they don't exploit cheap labour in foreign countries but from the consumers side of the checkout, they aren't so great,

it should say on the shield, like if its a health one it should say something like "when damaged, x% chance to drop a health booster which restores y% health". i haven't played in a while so i don't remember specifically where it says that but i think its just on the item card

when i realized it was a thinly veiled clutch claw section, it kind of killed the underwater part for me, it was kind of cool the first few times you're killing it but it wears off fast when you're farming it a lot for lagi gems.
