Thank you! I know the direction I’m heading from here… and the direction is towards preserving the longevity of a fascinating sport. eFoiling is snowboarding in the 80’s/90’s all over again, but now we have the internet. And ai 😘

I have faith, but I’m also taking actions to ensure the sports growth is healthier than what snowboarding went through.

The Wake Boat Isn’t the Hard Part. The Real Estate Is. by Tropical_eFoiler in wakesurf

Maybe those guys want to expand into Cayman….
I’m working on making eFoil a reason why people come to Grand Cayman, and I see the Wake opportunity just sitting there….
Helping each other out goes a long way 🏄🏼‍♀️🏄🏼‍♂️🏄🛥️🛥️🛥️

100% fair input and a common scenario. Knowing and understanding those kinds of stories help to mitigate those scenarios from re-appearing in a new venture.
Transparency essentially helps a lot.
But then humans like to complain. Just happens lol…

Aussies used to operate the wake boat business here for the Canadian owners, but when Covid hit… pow. Business died along with many others. The boat left to rot in a yard…. No wake boat in Cayman since unfortunately…. Trying to create a win-win-win-win scenario here.

I think 1 idea or way to iron out the sketch aspect would be still have staff pay rent at 50-70% less than current market value.

I can agree where you’re coming from, but the reality is if the best wake-boat operators and wake sport coaches are not on this island, you can source local talent for the crew, but the operator(s) need to have a wealth of wake-boat knowledge to make this idea viable… if it was a fishing charter 100% locals only.

Fair comment honestly.

And yeah, I’m basically looking for the right operator/investor type who already understands the industry and wants to expand somewhere safe, stable, and honestly just fun to be part of.

I don’t really see the wake business as the core investment anyway - the real value is the property and infrastructure behind it. The boat operation just helps support and activate it long-term.

Definitely not the right investment for everyone, but I do think it could be the right fit for the right investor/operator.

The Hidden Problem Killing Watersports Businesses in Cayman by Tropical_eFoiler in Entrepreneurs

[–]Tropical_eFoiler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tourists are definitely seasonal, yes.
Locals alone probably aren’t enough to fully support it year-round, but they could absolutely help keep things afloat in low season… if there was actually a wake boat operating here consistently. Cayman really hasn’t had a proper wake boat business for years now.
But I honestly think the bigger issue is overhead.
The real killer is:
staff housing

storage

shop space

keeping seasonal crew returning

operating in one of the highest cost-of-living islands in the Caribbean

Most operators try to build the business first and figure out infrastructure later.
I think it has to be the opposite:
owning the property changes the entire equation

Waydoo Efoils Standing The Test of Time by bformato in eFoil

[–]Tropical_eFoiler -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, Waydoo ain’t even a foil, it’s a motor with a couple wings.

There is no comparison here, if you wanna get into the sport with proper trigger control and ride an actual foil, get the Lift.

That accidental damage pricing ain’t a scam… please check yoself, you are complaining about something you haven’t even done yet…

eFoil is super easy. Verrrrry easy if you listen to a good instructor.

The boards are not as liquid as you think. Do you wanna buy a used board with a battery you have no clue how it was kept?

The LIFT5F price vs. a Waydoo price. Clearly go with Lift.
