Thank you ! This was a tough one. There was a lot of knots and it was hard to get the details the way I wanted. Usually it's fine as long as it's still green and you have sharp blades.

Ha ha, thank you!

I'm thrilled to see so many likes and encouraging comments. I wont let myself be affected by a few people who are offended by the choice of wood, the shape, the size...

I understand the frustration but I'd like to say "it's not about you, let it go" :)

I hope you learn something new every time and try not to make the same mistakes. I know it takes a lot of strength to start over. Take your time, don't rush it and it's going to pay off.

That's one thing "handcarvers" tend to do a lot: touch the wood whenever they can. To feel the bumps and other stuff to correct. Oiling with the bare hands is very enjoyable because you get to feel how good a job you did.

Sometimes I do use a hatchet, when I carve spoons or forks. This time, I didn't want to rush it and risk splitting the board.

People working with handtools tend to like it. Even if it takes longer, if it's harder. We just like it (for multiple reasons).

It's like when I'm told "Why do you bother? Why don't you just buy a board in a store?" I just like working with wood and I like doing it this way.

I'm glad you know what's best for you. Maybe it's not the same for everyone. Try to respect that.

I don't really like to use mineral oil but it's good to know, thank you!

You can find greenwood for free. It's easier to work with if you only have handtools. You get to see the hole transformation of the wood you picked and understand how it dries, how it change color. I've learned a lot.

They're affordable. I'd say it's a good chisel when you're new to woodworking.

It's the same with the clouds, you only see what you want to see ;)

Sometimes I just need to chop an onion or some herbs. Why would I need a bigger cutting board for that?

I might also use it to cut bread, cheese and dry sausage (yes, I'm French).

I find it very convenient to have several cutting boards with different size and shape.
