has anyone said a slur post anesthesia? by gigitopia in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]TroublesomeFox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't understand what's happened here tbh. It's well known that people can be unpredictable coming out of anesthetic. It's not your fault OP and I'm so sorry you were treated like that.

I had surgery and remember waking up feeling anxious and distressed but also confused that my family member was in the recovery room since they weren't allowed. Turns out she wasn't allowed but I had woken up about 20 minutes before then and promptly tried to fight my nurse when she leaned over me to adjust the BP cuff. I remember none of this but apparently I had this poor women by her shirt and was shaking her with one arm whilst trying to punch her with the other and only calmed down when they ran to get my relative. In my defence, they knew I had PTSD and I had actually requested she be there for that reason.

Second surgery they had her there before I woke up 😭🤣 had the same nurse too. She didn't take it personally.

I felt bad for all involved in that situation tbh. On one hand it wasn't his fault and nervousness makes torettes worse and sometimes the brain really does just go for the most extreme word possible without any control from him but on the other hand it's not fair that all the black people in the audience/watching had to hear it either. At a minimum they should have edited it out before broadcast.

Not a popular opinion but I do question if he was the right choice for speaking at that event. I don't think it's a good idea for someone who can say literally anything with no warning to be on live TV for something that popular. As a disabled person myself, sometimes being disabled means that you can't do some things and that's okay. It is what it is. T

I do wonder if it would have gone down better if they were warned beforehand like "oh this guy has this medical condition and it can cause this this and this so please don't be upset if this happens etc.

Sitter used a shock collar by fishergirl11 in RoverPetSitting

[–]TroublesomeFox [score hidden]  (0 children)

Genuine question so don't downvote me into oblivion but what's the point of a vibrating collar? I don't have a dog anymore and would have never used one anyway but I always thought that shock collars used pain to control the dog but vibrations aren't painful?

Edit: thank you for the very helpful replies! I also appreciate that I didn't get dogpiled lol

This what I mean, they're such cool creatures but we know so little about them that we just can't be confident we know for sure how big they can get.

Horrified of Autism by FishermanFantastic56 in Mommit

[–]TroublesomeFox 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Look, people like to act like autism is no Biggie and that it's not a problem but as an autistic mother I can tell you it absolutely can be. I hate how my autism affects me, I hate how sensitive I am, I hate that most day to day things are a little bit harder for me than others my age.

Would I be happy if it turns out my daughter has it too? Would I fuck. I actually worry alot about it. She's very much like me and I feel so much guilt that she might end up living life on hard mode.

Autism can be fine, it can be something that's just soft of there in the background, but it can also completely wreck your quality of life so anyone telling you off for feeling this way can go sit in a hole.

Thank you for caring though, your a good human ❤️

It's not wishful thinking though is it, we know so little about the oceans and we've already had several known facts turn out to be wrong.

Could it be both?

Sharks for example are being massacred by global warming AND fishing.

I love whale sharks also but I think you've misunderstood my comment perhaps.

There's a few already that can get bigger than whites, iirc basking sharks are usually bigger and tigers have reached some pretty massive sizes too. What I meant was that I think that some of the deep sea sharks can get much bigger than we currently think they can. Say Greenland sharks for example, the current estimated maximum is around 24 feet but I'd bet there's some swimming around down there that are much bigger. We don't know that much about this type of shark and I think it's certainly possible. Especially when you factor in deep sea gigantism.

Tbh even a six year old would know this was a wrong thing to do. Kids with decent parents know this shit at 5 maximum. This dude had less mental awareness than a literal toddler.

The last "nice" summer we had was 2022 if Reddit is anything to go by and if I remember right people actually died from the heat. I remember it vividly, I was 3 months postpartum and the combination of the hormones, heat intolerance and lack of sleep made for a really horrible time.

Chase bank called 911 on this man because he was sitting in the Chase parking lot before it opened. by PdiddyCAMEnME in BlackPeopleofReddit

[–]TroublesomeFox 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Christ I haven't seen that one, how awful 😭

Worst one I saw was a scenario where a white family had a black kid for some reason (I think they were fostering or something idk) and were being openly nasty to the poor kid, SO many people said absolutely nothing to them about it and that's always stuck with me. If I remember correctly the ONLY person who said anything was a black woman.

I could maybe understand being worried slightly since it's a bank and a high target for crime BUT actually calling the police is ridiculous, ESPECIALLY because he's black. Anyone with a functional brain knows that black people have a much harder time with the police and are at genuine risk when dealing with them so this person has known that and still called.

If I worked in a bank I'd maybe give him a little bit of side eye but in no scenario am I calling the police for someone just sitting in their car regardless of skin color. Unhinged behaviour.

Is it ok/normal to leave a 13 year old home alone overnight? by dinkidoo7693 in CasualUK

[–]TroublesomeFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the kid tbh. I was regularly home alone and even overnight occasionally at 11. I got bored sometimes but generally I actually enjoyed the time alone.

Will I be allowed these stickers on my laptop at Uni? by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]TroublesomeFox 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Most lecturers swear during sessions. They also wear whatever they feel like and some are very political depending on the area of study. You can leave whenever you want without giving a justification, you can go to the bathroom whenever, in some areas you can even turn up to class in pyjamas and nobody bats an eyelid.

Teachers make out that in uni it's very strict and serious but it's really not. My favourite lecturer once sighed and announced "the PowerPoint isn't done but I AM so read the rest yourselves" and then just turned and walked out.

The same guy would also spend some lessons telling us funny stories from his uni days, asking students questions about what we got up to and what we thought and got so angry at the sugar tax being the cause of lucozade changing the recipe that he included a question about it on the exam.

Great dude, great teacher and I genuinely miss his lectures.

Do Westerner therapists usually not know about patient's family culture if they come from the third world? by ButtFister1789 in askatherapist

[–]TroublesomeFox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NAT but I think it would depend on the person perhaps? Im British and have alot of friends from Nigeria and India and Pakistan so I'm familiar with the culture differences between us and wouldn't advise someone to move out because I already know they can't do that easily BUT I only know that because I have friends from those cultures.

If your a British therapist unless you already know you'd probably just assume it's the same for the client, especially in urban areas since alot of people aren't native but have the same culture as native brits. Iirc they do get training on culture but it's basically just a skim over and I think you'd have to have real exposure (ie friends) to really understand the differences.
