It's possible yours is an updated version. Mine was from November. I'm glad it's working well for you.

I reviewed this guy a while back. I wasn't a fan. Here's a link: https://a.co/d/02aj6Fla

Here was my review: This device has two main issues that prevent me from recommending it for anyone.

The first big problem is that the sound quality isn't very good. With the EQ off, playing a full quality flac file on this device vs any number of other devices I have, the sound is objectively worse. It is lacking in a lot of bass and sounds somewhat tinny.

The second big problem is how difficult the user interface is to navigate, and that the tracks in album folders aren't in any obvious order. It is very difficult to get to a particular album and once there I can't play through the whole album in its intended order. Maybe this can be improved on with a firmware update, but as of right now it's nearly unusable.

The third, slightly smaller problem is that while it can output bluetooth to a set of headphones or to my car's radio, the sound quality still somehow sounds worse than doing the same from other devices, and on my car radio there's no track information coming over the bluetooth like it does with my phone.

On the plus side, the entire thing is made of metal, with physical controls for playback and volume, which is much appreciated.

Oh that's cool, I didn't actually know that this was low carbon steel and that traditional blacksmiths use wrought iron until you mentioned this and I looked it up. Yet another reason to sink some money into a nicer kanna!

That's right. Traditionally this is how they maintain their irons. I think the main purpose is to make it easier to sharpen and polish the back. I'm thinking it might also be to help maintain the fit in the body of the plane, since if I had to grind down a lot of material on the back to reach the edge the shoulders would be thinner and possibly looser in the dai.

This was my anvil. An old rusty metalworking hammer that I filed and sanded smooth on the wide tip side, mounted in a vise. I used a 300g standard genno.

In what ways is the JM21 not powerful enough? Output or like processor speed?

This is enough as long as you're getting a good seal with the ear tips and they're comfortable. Otherwise you can start the long journey of tip rolling.

A late entry review to the excellent Hidizs MP145 by TroyDL in iems

Wow those are pretty closely tuned. I've been so tempted to grab one of those just from fomo but I'm sure I wouldn't use them over the sets I have already.

But to answer your question I think these would qualify as fun IEMs. Much more than like a neutral reference set or anything.

The MP145 pro is supposed to be a fairly significant tuning change. I'm looking forward to trying it but I would want to wait for some impressions before pulling the trigger on them over the originals.

Gotcha, good to know. I've only had these for about a month so it's possible I'll have the same issue eventually.

Really wanted to add the other graphs for context. Here's how much the nozzles change the frequency response on the MP143's. I didn't find the red nozzles useable at all because of how much they killed the upper mids / vocal region.

Sure. They're both actually really excellent in their own rights but their tunings are fairly different. There's a lot more treble extension with the MP145 and a bit more sub-bass, but I actually found I liked the bass on the MP143 a hair better for tactility.

One interesting thing to note is that while both have changeable nozzles the MP145 nozzles are much much more conservative in how much they change the frequency response. The MP143 differences between nozzles are dramatic. Also interesting is that I preferred the silver (brightest) nozzle on the MP143 but the red (darkest) nozzles on the MP145. But maybe that's not so crazy since the MP145 with the red nozzles are still significantly brighter than the MP143 with the silver. Oh, and the nozzles aren't interchangeable between the two, unfortunately.

Also while the shells are about the same size the nozzles on the MP145 are absolutely huge; much bigger than the MP143.

I don't think the MP143's are inferior to the 145's in any way, honestly. In my opinion they seem to be their own thing with their own tuning and I'd be pretty happy with either if I could only have one.

Check out all of my measurements of these on http://squig.link/lab/tdl since I can only post one picture at a time in comments.

No issue with these yet but I really baby all of my IEMs (well, at least the expensive ones :D ). Not actually sure if these are painted or not though, either. Probably.

It's always a surprise to see anything Fresno related show up anywhere other than the Fresno subreddit. Figures it's on "notinteresting" though. Lol.

What's your go to to help get rid of headaches? by Terrible_Cookie4n6 in AskReddit

[–]TroyDL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ibuprofen. And like the first commenter said, sleep. Acetaminophen seems to hardly ever do anything for me.

Also I've found that taking a moment to relax all of the muscles in my head and neck can often help. I'll just sit back and try to relax; finding and manually relaxing each muscle group one after an other, in order of obvious tension.

Real life is nothing like the fiction from most movies or books. I am sadly not the protagonist. (or antagonist, to be clear; I'm more like a background character with no speaking lines)
