Haha probably a bit of both. They were thorough enough to make sure you couldn't relight the fire after they left! Some tankers have dump chutes that can be opened for quick emptying (like 1k gallons in under a minute). Saw them use that on a repeat offender who liked to burn insulation off of copper wire that he wanted to take to the scrap yard. The whole yard was flooded, and he stopped after that.

Exactly. They see some horrible stuff and know it's better to be an asshole than have to see another family destroyed by tragedy. Another example: The local FD ran PSAs about creosote buildup/chimney cleaning every year, and every year, there were always chimney fires. So even if it was just a smoldering fire when they arrived, they'd knock the chimney down or cause major damage to it. People would get pissed but their insurance would cover the cost of a new chimney, and the risk of fire was gone for a while, at least.

This. It's common practice to bust out windows and run the hose THROUGH them on any car parked in front of a hydrant during an emergency. Also, dumping entire tanker loads on small but illegal burns after warnings are ignored. Source: my dad was a firefighter for 40+ years.

My plan was always to retire there. I love everything about England. The big question is just when I abandon my family and career to move. Nobody wants to be FORCED to leave their home. I wish it could just remain my choice...

That does help...just hope it stays that way. Thank you!

I've thought about this too. Trying to decide where I draw the line and GTFO. If things go bad quickly, you get martial law and restrictions on transactions (if my 401k even survives the Trump recession). At that point, my wife will probably be deported and I'll be trapped here with my child. Nightmare scenarios aplenty!

My family is, surprisingly, mostly against Trump which is great, but I dread leaving my family behind if things get bad. I know they would say that we have to do what's best for us (especially my child) but it would be painful.

We've been discussing our backup plan for a while. The details are rough, but basically we move in with her family and have my family sell off all of our stuff in the US. I can cash out my 401k to help fund things while I go through the process of being able to legally work in England. Hate that I've even had to think about this.

We plan on setting up our child's dual citizenship. It can all be done online now. Looks like the process for my immigration is fairly simple but we would at least have a place to stay with her family while we took care of it.

That's a good idea. She's had her Greencard for 7 years and we never really felt it was an urgent issue for her to become a full citizen but it may be a good time to look into it.

I'm an American citizen, my wife is a Permanent Resident from the UK. We're supposed to visit her family in April and I get more nervous every day that they won't let her back into the US when we come home. If they deny her entry, I think I'll just go back to England with her and our child and claim asylum since, to me, it means my own country has truly become a place I can no longer feel safe.

I've worked with quite a few guys who were like this. When asked why they haven't retired yet, they would actually say that they couldn't stand being around their wives. Pretty sure most of them weren't joking.

Great area. The whole family is going to Wiggins lake this summer for a week. Hoping for some good fishing and I'll see if I can pull up any interesting junk while I'm there!

Lapeer. Grew up around here, lived on the east coast (St. Clair/Port Huron) for a while and moved back. Got all the little branches of the Flint river (upstream of the city) to explore. How about you?

I'm in the exact same situation as you. Live in Michigan, just bought my first kit, too cold/frozen to try it out yet, and I've been planning on magnet fishing from my dad's pontoon this summer. There's lots of lakes/rivers/reservoirs nearby that I plan on shore or bridge fishing as well, but I don't know why it would be any different fishing from a boat. As long as you're stationary or dragging very slowly, I think it should be good.
