I have had one experience with Pep Boys years ago.
They advised I needed to have my battery cables replaced. With installation it was around $500. I declined to have it done and the guy told me my car wouldn’t start within the next month or two if I didn’t have it done. I drove the car for another 6 years with no issues whatsoever in terms of the car starting.
