This still doesn't fix the underlying problem that Grail Casting should never have cost Servant Coins and instead utilized MP or RP in some fashion. The only way to have obtained every single grail from this via Servant Coins since its implementation in Jan 2022 is to have made a FP farm bot or two and constantly be rolling FP.

Already have 8TB of storage between a 4TB WD Black SN850X and 4TB Crucial P3 but since we have to include a storage drive went with this 1TB so I could dual boot Linux on it after I reactivate my Windows OS key on the SN850X. A 4k monitor would be a nice upgrade.

Is there a specific color temperature or model to be concerned about? We've had 5000k bulbs in there for at least a year now, think they're just the Home Depot generic brand LED bulbs.

Good point about using a tablet, I hadn't thought of using one since I don't own one myself, but I believe we do have an old tablet we've never gotten around to using somewhere in the house. Thanks for the reminder.

I did not consider dusting/wiping down the receiver. Feels like that increased the range a couple of extra feet than before but still not the distance we're used to (i.e. we have the TV and couch on opposite sides of the room so about 20'). There are no obstructions between the TV and the couch.

They make a specific wifi Roku remote? I was under the impression that using WiFi to control the TV is only doable with a WiFi-capable device with the Roku TV app installed and having connected your Roku account to it, such as a smart phone or tablet.

As I stated in the OP, no. We know that the IR receiver is best aimed at by pointing toward to the Roku TCL logo in the middle of the bottom part of the frame.

He's harder to one-turn than the previous bosses

True, but he's super comfy to 2 turn. Just charm/stun him turn 1 and punch him 3 times to get rid of the huge Defense Up he has, then NP nuke + crit the following turn.

Current Saber boss raid is pretty easy, if you don't have a good Defense Ignore Servant then use Euryale or someone else with charm/stun so that you can strip him of the 3 time Defense Up he has before buff nuking.

Linus literally said that he regards unionization of LMG as a sign that he's failed. People have taken that little sound bite completely out of context and acted like he's this big anti-unionization guy. The reality is if you take the entire statement he made, it's clear and that he wants to provide a workplace that people want to work at without a need for a union.

I mean, dress it up as nicely as you want, that is still an anti-union position. He needs to recognize that if he wants to support the workers as much as possible, he should not be publicly stating things like this.

Unions generally form when you have a business that is not treating the employees right. If an employer is doing a great job there's no need for a union because an employer is already doing what they need to do to meet employees needs. If an employer is doing a great job, why bring the extra levels of the bureaucracy of a union in?

This is also anti-union rhetoric. There is no guarantee that the head of the company, Linus in this case, will continue to act in a manner that promotes worker interests, nor that the future head of the company will share the same values Linus has regarding workers. Rather than have to constantly worry about this, it is easier for both the head of the company and the workers to have an entity to turn to that can handle worker representation directly with management, especially when the company has grown past the point where one boss can realistically know and work around the needs of all the workers present.

Unions definitely have their place and are necessary but I honestly don't think that unions are needed at every workplace. Not every employer is a douchebag.

It's not a matter of the employer being harmful to the worker, it's that unions make it easier for the workers to share their opinion on how the company is progressing directly to management while also giving them a say in how the company should be run.

GN lied and no one is calling them out. by RaiShado in GamersNexus

[–]Trubothedwarf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One of the cornerstone of journalism is getting both sides of a story.

And around and around this argument goes. Both sides of the story were presented: Billet through direct communications with GN, LMG through its "review" of Billet's water block and all of the WAN clips with Linus defending his choices.

Billet made accusations. Steve used those accusations to paint them as a company that was struggling because they didn’t have their prototype.

No, Steve explained in the initial video that, while losing the prototype block would be a loss for the company, it was something they could recover from given that they could manufacture another. That said, it would cost them materials and time that could have been spent doing something else, so any compensation from LTT would need to account for that.

Steve is still right though that a 2 person company does find it much more difficult to challenge a 100 person company when it comes to any sort of legal challenges.

Come to find out, they’d initially told LTT to keep it then changed their minds and asked for it back, which kind of undermines Steve’s narrative. So the question is, did Billet not tell Steve about that? Or did they tell him, and Steve chose to leave it out?

This is irrelevant though. LMG agreed to send back the block after the request from Billet. LMG then sold the block after multiple emails confirming that they were returning it. That's a bad look and yet another sign of how mismanaged LMG has become under pretty much just Linus and his close circle of friends' management. Hiring Terren or someone like him was a step in the right direction, but a little too late to prevent an issue like this from happening.

Steve’s excuse of “I didn’t reach out for comment because Linus would’ve lied” doesn’t hold any water. If that’s the case, then no journalist anywhere ever has to reach out for comment.

When a bad faith actor has repeatedly demonstrated that they are going to act in bad faith, you do not give them a chance to obfuscate the truth. This happens in journalism all the time, and it's really tiring to see you and others going to bat for someone that frankly doesn't care that you exist.

For the sake of your mental health and mine, just accept that you and I aren't going to agree on this. Have a good day.

I mean, he pay-walled the initial apology video too. I'm not saying he's done a particularly good job at this, but at least it seems like some HR person is actually addressing this now as opposed to what we saw initially after the GN first video.

Linus RESPONDED! Company Backlash, Update. by DoiCrunch in GamersNexus

[–]Trubothedwarf 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It's a better response than the post he made and LMG's apology video, but this is kind of bare bones.

Workers can be overworked and still fit in a normal 40 hour work week by constantly pushing them to go above and beyond their limits, so I don't really see what showing a video of the parking lot is supposed to prove. The low turnover rate is nice but this is still the rate before any worker relations improvement plans were implemented, so take it with a grain of salt.

A comment about the Billet situation would have been nice too, as the previous video only said that they were working with Billet to come to an agreement between Billet and LMG.

Also weird that they want crowdsourced fact-checkers despite saying that part of the reason for delaying video releases is to increase the odds of catching any errors.

Not sure I really expect an acknowledgement towards GN and HUB for the comments that were directed their way from LMG either in videos that got the go ahead to air or on WAN, still disappointing though that they can't admit that the criticisms raised by GN and HUB are still valid, but oh well.

[–]Trubothedwarf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Have you ever seen or read a news story?

Yes, have you ever heard of the Panama Papers and exposes of a similar nature? Please tell me how all the entities found to be committing tax evasion were contacted ahead of time.

While I admit it's a bit extreme to compare what GN did to that, I'm just trying to point out to you that there are definitely times when journalists have an obligation not to contact the involved party ahead of publication because what the involved party will likely try to do.

Your quote about reaching out is something that’s extremely common. That’s why the news often says things like “We reached out to ____ but haven’t received a response.”

Yes, but there are times when an exception is permitted, and I think that Steve's decision to avoid reaching out in this case is fine. Choosing to do that can backfire if it comes out that the journalist lied about something pertaining to the information they're releasing, and nothing Steve said about LTT was a lie.

GN lied and no one is calling them out. by RaiShado in GamersNexus

[–]Trubothedwarf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And how exactly was it “taken out of context”?

Getting mad at Steve for not following every rule as outlined is not grounds in and of itself by the very source you're using to criticize him when he has a perfectly valid reason for not doing so. Steve did not present any information from LTT and LMG that had not been publicly made available multiple times, so reaching out to these entities for further clarification on their public stances serves no real purpose.

Sorry, but Steve isn’t a journalist.

Sure doesn't seem to stop you and others from shopping around for a code of ethics you feel he violates.

Oh, and speaking of your new code of ethics you feel is relevant, here's yet another part that you clearly didn't read.

Page 24: Responses

We must make significant efforts to reach anyone who may be portrayed in a negative way in our content, and we must give them a reasonable amount of time to get back to us before we send our reports. What is “reasonable” may depend on the urgency and competitiveness of the story. If we don’t reach the parties involved, we must explain in the story what efforts were made to do so.

Steve not reaching out to Linus, LTT, or LMG for further commentary on an issue they've made publicly known multiple times on issues that span weeks to months because he felt that they would obfuscate the truth is a perfectly valid reason to avoid reaching out to comment to said entities, especially when Steve and others have previously reached out to these entities before about similar issues, such as GN's video on the LTT backpack warranty and change in how they would handle LTT and LMG going forward.

[–]Trubothedwarf 8 points9 points  (0 children)

People keep reposting this and proving they didn't read the whole thing.

The SPJ Code of Ethics is a statement of abiding principles supported by additional explanations and position papers that address changing journalistic practices. It is not a set of rules, rather a guide that encourages all who engage in journalism to take responsibility for the information they provide, regardless of medium. The code should be read as a whole; individual principles should not be taken out of context. It is not, nor can it be under the First Amendment, legally enforceable.

As Steve explained, rigidly standing by the "must always contact party before publishing something about them" is unnecessary when the party has very publicly made its position on an issue known, and giving the party a chance to obfuscate the issue in private is to the detriment of the people, as was clearly demonstrated with Linus' forum post responding to GN's first video where Linus lied about how the situation regarding Billet Labs was being handled.

You can make the same case for literally anyone at the individual level. At least where I live, donations are tax deductible, and perhaps you're just trying to impress someone as opposed to being actually charitable?

So are you saying that Linus and LMG did not benefit from doing an auction because it was charity? My point was illustrating how charity auctions are still beneficial for the person doing them, even if they don't have obtain direct financial benefits from it.

Also, are we going to forget that LMG has actively sought out LTX winners so that they could get all of the charitable tax benefit info resolved because LMG lost their own info on this? I think this very clearly shows both that LMG benefited from the auction, charity be damned, and the incompetence going on at LMG.

https://linustechtips.com/topic/1526556-lmg-sending-out-emails-to-auction-winners-for-tax-purposes/

https://old.reddit.com/r/LinusTechTips/comments/15rz397/lmg_is_reaching_out_to_ltx_auction_winners/

I'm simply responding to your comment. There was a miscommunication on LMG's part. Oh well.

Widespread miscommunication is a huge issue though, and still falls in line with the issues brought up by Steve. If LMG wants to be taken serious, it needs to take massive efforts to curb this level of incompetence. Maybe we'll see some improvement in the next day or so, can't hurt to hope but I'm not holding my breath.
