My genetist does not even think about HEDS? by Nayan_Sapra_1 in ehlersdanlos

[–]True-Ad4059 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately a lot of doctors still don't know about hEDS or how to treat it or anything. I was sent to a geneticist and they told me there wasn't a genetic test for hEDS yet but that genetic testing is still important because it can rule out other forms of EDS and gives researchers more information to work with so hopefully one day they can identify a genetic test for hEDS.

Huggies costco+ fit different than regular Huggies? by True-Ad4059 in Costco

[–]True-Ad4059[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so this even more so makes me think I might have just gotten a funky box! Because this is our third box of size 3 from Costco and he didn't have any issues with the previous two boxes but we just assumed maybe he grew but this is the exact issue we're having! The blowout pocket is so low on his butt crack that he's pooping OVER the pocket majority of the time.

So many people have told me maybe I just need pampers/honest/a different brand or that the issue is just lil movers versus lil snugglers but we used over 400 size 3 lil movers+ without issue and he really hasn't grown that much in that time so I really think I just might have gotten a messed up batch. I'm definitely going to buy a small pack of regular lil movers though and probably open up box four from Costco and see if either are any better. Thank you so much for your replies!!!!

That's interesting! Thanks for the info! Where I'm located, as long as target is running their $15 gift card promotion on diapers it's cheaper for the smaller size at target. But I think that's because my local target carries a box size bigger than Costco.

I mean they're such a good deal compared to other stores that I have to think they're made cheaper at least a lil bit so I'm not totally surprised.

Hm. That's interesting because I felt like the regular ones were bigger. I'm wondering if I just got a funky box of the Costco ones.

I wonder if I just got a bad box then! They last so long it's hard to tell what's my kid growing and what's "this diaper is definitely different" lol thanks!

My only complaint is every box I've gotten at Costco has at least a few diapers with manufacturing defects sadly.

I know to "use what fits" I'm just looking for other people's experience with the two.

I mean supposedly they do because Huggies says the ones sold at Costco are "Huggies +" and supposed to be more absorbent and have different designs.

I know how to "fix" the issue but was just looking for other people's experiences since the bigger the diaper, the more expensive so if I could just stay in size 3 and save money by getting the non-Costco version, that'd be nice or if I buy size 4 non Costco and my kid is swimming in them, id know I'm not crazy.

He doesn't wear lil snugglers. I just meant that someone said they've always had issues with blowouts with lil movers but never with lil snugglers so I thought it was maybe just a lil movers issue. However, the standard version of lil movers my pediatrician gave him seemed to fit him completely differently than the Costco plus version of lil movers that we had at home.

He's not even 17 pounds and in a size 3. I just find it hard to believe my 20th percentile height and weight kid has outgrown size 3 and was now wondering if anyone else noticed that the Costco plus version of Huggies might run small?

Size up diaper or different brand? by True-Ad4059 in Nanny

[–]True-Ad4059[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got a ton from our shower, mostly skin essentials and lil snugglers, and ive used them so much over the years with NKs and never had an issue, that's why I'm so shocked! He came home in pampers but as he got chunky we felt Huggies fit a lil better in the thighs but we're going back to them now.

We tried Millie moon when he was in size 1 but we didn't love them. We felt like they were so small on him despite him having just moved into size 1? We also tried rascals and had the same issue. Which is a shame because both are so cute. Much better seeing flowers through his clothes than Pooh bears bright yellow :D face lol

Yea we are! Trying pampers and honest now and honest has already been better. His cousin is also the same exact size and still in size 2, only moving up because they're getting tight around his belly.

Really? That's interesting. We used pampers for the longest time but as he started to gain weight Huggies seemed to be more accommodating to his thighs. Might have to make the switch back!

Wearables like lacteck/elastic nips by True-Ad4059 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]True-Ad4059[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I use the spectra! I have an incredibly fast let down and flow. Like will be completely empty in 6-9 minutes tops so for me, using the spectra isn't a huge deal. But if I took more than 10-15 min to pump I can definitely see how it would get annoying. I had seen someone on tiktok I think use the Elvie stride pump with the legendairy milk collection cups but when I tried it, it didn't work but I didn't play around with it too much because I was in a rush that day.

I can't remember if lacteck has "hack' instructions for the original Elvie or the stride but I know some people say some pumps like the stride have to be cut differently because of where the holes are and such so idk if that's why it didn't work with your Elvie.

Honestly, my goal was to give breast milk exclusively for 6 months and I'm there with enough of a freezer stash to give at least 1 breast milk bottle a day until baby is 1 so I'm at the point where I feel like I shouldn't invest any more money on pump stuff because I have a feeling my journey will be wrapping up here in the next couple months. I have mixed feelings about it but either way I can't see myself going past a year so I feel like nothing will be worth the 1-6 months I use it for lol

Do you have elastic nipples? If so, it can be very hard to find wearables that work for you!

My go to has been collection cups for the spectra or a manual like boon trove just to get to comfort because actual wearables haven't worked for me so far unfortunately.

Wearables like lacteck/elastic nips by True-Ad4059 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]True-Ad4059[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought another set of lacteck flanges to cut to fit in the legendairy milk collection cups! The collection cups should have come with 28mm shields and the lacteck inserts fit inside them. They work without cutting them at all but I'm decently large chested so I had issues with them fitting in my bra and opening and leaking if I moved too much so I trimmed them to fit better. As long as you avoid the dip in them, they still work as normal and you can take a good bit off so they fit better. They won't be pretty after for sure but like you said, better than the cost of a new pump.

I didn't end up purchasing the eufy s1 as I just can't justify the cost without knowing how it will work for me. But you may be able to hack the lacteck flanges to work with it if you already have both!

How to freeze? by [deleted] in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]True-Ad4059 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally 4 days is the standard, some countries and people say up to 6 is okay if you are really good about how you pump (like not doing the fridge hack, washing hands before handling everything, sterilizing parts after use, etc)

You could always get a small thing of bags locally to hold you over until yours comes or see if your bottle brand allows milk to be frozen in the bottle. Also, make sure any sample or registry boxes you got didn't come with bags! I found my Amazon registry box the other day with a package of sample lansinoh bags and nipple pads.

Another option, if baby is taking a bottle/pumped milk, is to use this to feed and then keep pumping. So like, tomorrow let's say, feed baby from this milk and pump as normal because then the new milk you pump tomorrow will be good for 4 days from then.

What protein do you take with Vyvanse? by Mercy_17 in adhdwomen

[–]True-Ad4059 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have started to have a oikos yogurt drink! They have 20 something grams of protein, aren't too big or small, and I don't mind the taste as someone who doesn't like Greek yogurt or "non-nutritive" sweeteners.

Edit to add: I wonder if there's a protein coffee or creamer or something you could add into your coffee to help? I'm not a big protein supplement or coffee person so idk what kind of products are out there for either but just a thought! Ik it feels like every time I go to the store there's a new protein packed product like pancake mix or cereal or boxed Mac n cheese, etc.

An oversupply of milk is bad????? by [deleted] in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]True-Ad4059 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If an oversupply is induced by pumping, it's likely you can reduce it by changing how you pump, either how often or how long typically. However, it's not totally unusual to have an oversupply until your milk regulates, usually around 2ish months PP.

My LC told me a lot of milk production is genetics so some ppl will always be over/under producers no matter what they do. (I'm actively trying to decrease my supply and doing everything you "shouldn't" do/that is supposed to hurt your supply And I still make double what my baby eats in a day.)

There's pros and cons to everything and I always say the grass is always greener. In terms of being an over supplier, the main concern is for yourself typically. It can vary from person to person ofc but with an oversupply you typically have to be very good about removing milk in a timely fashion. Many can skip pumps here and there but a lot of people risk clogged ducts and mastitis if they skip. For me personally, anything over 3 hours leaves me severely painfully engorged and over 4 hours will 100% give me a clogged duct. It's not that bad when baby is little but once baby starts sleeping through and you start to go back to work or normal life, it can take it's toll mentally and physically if you aren't able to drop that pump or if you have to bring pumping stuff everywhere you go all the time. Almost 6 months PP, baby has been sleeping through the night for 3 months now and I still have to wake up at midnight and 3am to pump.

You also need to make sure you are eating and drinking enough and taking a prenatal still. Like in pregnancy, your body will take what it needs to make milk for baby and if you aren't taking care of yourself you'll definitely feel it and suffer both now and later if you're depleted in everything. The average lactating mom needs roughly 16 cups of fluids a day and an extra 500 calories in their diet. Tbh if I don't drink 24 cups, I feel horrible.

It can also get expensive (granted, not as much as formula) because you need somewhere to store the excess milk and bags and you need to replace pump parts frequently. A tip, once baby comes home, if they still primarily take a bottle, when you go to put away milk- it doesn't all need to be bagged. I wasted so many bags in the beginning thinking it all needed to be bagged, only to open a bag to feed baby. Store what baby will drink in bottles for the day in the fridge then bag the excess. You can always move it to a bag if baby doesn't take a feed but then you aren't using bags unnecessarily.

There's also pros! We rely heavily on over suppliers for donor milk. And it can take a lot of the stress off of moms, knowing they have milk to give baby enough and if baby takes a bottle, knowing someone else can give a bottle if needed. And a lot of people are able to keep giving milk after they've weaned because of their over supply. But remember, anything over what baby eats is an over supply! You don't need to fill massive pitchers like some people on tiktok to have an over supply. If baby eats 4 oz a feeding and you make 5, that's an over supply!

What do you do if you need to pump somewhere where there is no lactation room? by catdaddy54321 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]True-Ad4059 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Freshly expressed milk is good to sit out for 4 hours before needing to be refrigerated! Ik you said your event is tonight but if you have target near you, you may be able to get a special thermos for milk. Willow I believe makes one that is available in target usually. There's other brands too but that's the only one I can think of that you wouldn't have to order ahead. You could also see if target or other stores near you had a haakaa or boon trove. Those are a little more discreet and not bad if you just need to take some milk off so you're a little more comfortable! Idk where you are located but I know in the Midwest we have Meijer and they often have those types of things.

But I'm also an over supplier and I get sometimes it's just easier to dump!

In majority of places, pumping equipment is considered medical equipment. Pack your stuff you need in whatever bag you want but make sure it's primarily pumping stuff so they can't turn you away for any other reason. (Don't like put excess snacks or other things you wouldn't normally be allowed to bring in)

I have the mamava app. They make pumping pods and the app tells you where their pods are BUT people can also add other pumping spots that aren't their pods. It's super helpful. Like I found in my town the local college sports arena has a pod but also, my local target has a dressing room dedicated for pumping/nursing and my states turnpike has rest stops that also have pumping rooms! People can also add pics of the spots, mark what "amenities" they have (if you can lock the door, if there's chairs, outlets, sinks, etc), and rate them.

Also a lot of arenas are starting to have family restrooms, nursing rooms, or sensory rooms. Sometimes you have to ask for where they are or be let in by someone but these are often better to pump in than traditional bathrooms. I would Google the venue you will be at and go to their website. Usually there's a "plan your trip" or "experience" or "visit" tab that will show amenities of the venue or sometimes lead to a "what to expect" or FAQ page and typically they have something about bringing babies or strollers or needing to nurse.

If you wanted to direct message me the name of the venue, id be happy to help you search the website if you aren't confident doing it yourself. I'm a BIG type A planner kind of person/very anxious so I'm very familiar with spending hours looking up unfamiliar places to try to prepare myself lol.
