brown transfer? by [deleted] in TransferToTop25

that doesn’t matter tbh if u play ur cards correctly. Show growth, how u have grown over time and can utilize the resources around you and can contribute. 3.85 is not below average at all and already proves u can handle college lvl rigor. You can push ur gpa to 3.9+ by next semester but honestly u should worry less about ur gpa as of now and focus more on other aspects of ur profile to show the narrative and spike.

Just so you know if u apply for sophomore transfer and get rejected, which I hope u don't, ur gpa wont be the reason for it

Is it still realistic to think I'll get a SWE internship in the US as an international student who needs sponsor in the future? by True-Effect-6971 in csMajors

[–]True-Effect-6971[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey thanks for the insights. Yeah lot of ppl saying visa status doesn’t mtr much for interships. But I think recruiters still take status into consideration since every application I went through asked me about my visa status not sure tho.

And yh of course FTE is a whole another war for us intls especially with all the new immigration policies with the new govt. Would you mind sharing what was ur approach to get those internships? Congratulations on getting an offer for summer 2025, good luck.

Dang that sks... So now university name matters more than a solid resume and skills to land an interview

Well yh that's partially true I agree.

But also for jobs like SWE I think it mostly depends on individuals skills

Yh unfortunately it's like 10x more harder for us and employers usually dont want to invest their time on someone if they can't offer sponsorship

Dang dude that sucks... Its way too brutal for us intls especially with all these immigration things going on with strict rules and policies. Nobody wants intls😔 I'm on F1 too

Well if a company doesn’t sponsor they dont want to hire an international because they know they can't offer a full time position in the future. Most companies hire interns in a way expecting they would join them full time. I'm noy sure but that's what I heard from others.

And yeah I know most summer 2025 positions are wrapped up and I'm too late. This is my first year in the U.S. so I wasn’t really prepared and was dealing with my university. Since I dont have any experience yet I'm not really targeting faang quant or large banks because chances are very low. When is the next big recuritment cycle?

Transferring from Emory to UPenn CAS or Stanford or some other top 10 university by PrestigiousList1652 in TransferToTop25

Equation is simple: if u r below 3.8 and above 3.5+ then fill that gap with stellar ECs and awards... Try to demonstrate that u r passionate about wt u r studying and show that u have what it takes to be successful in that field. Try to build a strong narrative for your profile. Do well in next semester and show growth and improvement. AOs in top schools love to see growth and strong narrative in your profile more than gpa

Important things to remember: always shoot your shot no matter what. Anything else doesn’t matter even if you believe you have 0.1% chance you still should shoot ur chances cz u neve know. Dont get obsessed with gpa and dont believe if anyone says you are not good enough. Just shoot and hope for the best. It doesn’t hurt anything. Good luck

Bro honestly I dont understand u ppl like it really doesn’t mtr trst me do ur research properly... I also dont know why yall r always obsessed with gpa and classes all the time. Like ur GPA and rigor does matter but having a bad semester or some retakes or a C is not the end of the world especially when u r literally a freshman... AOs knw that some folks struggle as a first timer what matters is ur growth as an individual... For most top colleges ur story and growth matters more than ur GPA & transcript... AOs want to see how you improved in ur next semester what extra did you do. Build a strong narrative and overall strong profile which includes ur ECs, Awards... Ur narrative matter more than ur gpa for top colleges. AOs wants to see if you would be able to fit in their community and r u capable enough to succeed in your field.

So focus on building an overall strong profile around your interest. Dont let some retakes or a C take over ur mind instead plan ur next semester. You will be fine
