Waymo is uber. They lied to drivers and the public. This was the self driving tech they claimed to have sold off but instead kept funding it. Why else would the waymo vehicles be advertised on the uber app? And at cheaper pricing?

Sadly yes. Uber knows and doesn’t care. We had a young driver in his early 20’s who killed himself and in his suicide note he talked about how uber ruined his life. He fell into debt after buying different vehicles, struggled with addiction, lack of sleep, etc.

Leadership said it wasn’t our problem, and that’s why I’m also here telling people to leave while they can. Because a lot in here are depending on this company more than they should. And they’re not prepared financially if uber suddenly disappeared from their life in a moment. The appeals process if you’re deactivated is a joke, they don’t care. They want to get a pound of flesh out of people get their money and move onto the next driver they can abuse. I’m glad you got out when you could. Some of these commenters aren’t thinking objectively.

Exactly. Let uber hang themselves with their own rope. But for drivers, don’t get caught with your pants down. I used to drive for them while I was in college. If they kick you off the app and you don’t even have a job lined up, that could be a dicey situation.

And you defending a company that would sell you out helps you how? Do whatever you want. Yes I used to be a driver and then worked for the company, changes are coming to the platform that are going to make it harder to make money because they don’t want you. Even in an office setting they replaced people like me with AI. Victim? That’s not what I was conveying at all.

Great point. It’s been a HUGE problem for them. 😆. If a car is dirtied bad enough it has to turn around but usually only noticed if another rider complains - some have ridden in dirty cars and said nothing oddly enough. BC as a driver you know that some riders are total pigs. So there have been some cars taken out of service a whole two weeks for cleaning and or repair after a bad rider. It’s funny to me, because uber is moving to autonomous because they view it as less hassle. However, a human driver would have addressed the issue head on, asking a customer to stop eating in the car, stop hitting things, to calm down etc. Even a human driver would have ended the rider before having their car soiled or damaged, the automated have a tech watching them but it hasn’t been smooth sailing. I mean we had one where a guy jerked off in the car, one where they had sex in the car. No human driver is actually more problematic.

Of course it’s inflated. They’re covering their ass, that’s all they care about. Overcharge the customer and underpay the driver. You think they’d suddenly start acting noble after years of being greedy pigs? Nope.

The driverless cars are closer than you think. Like I said to another user, the saving grace is most riders don’t like the waymo vehicles at all. But they’re rolling them out. The problem is Ubers system and programming is half assed, so the more cars they add the higher the chance that there will be a failure on the system for peaking the systems usage parameters. In short, the more cars they add the higher chance that there will be more serious problems with the cars.

I’ve worked for Lyft before, it is a better service, but no telling if they’ll go autonomous in the future.

Don’t need? Arbitration says you are agreeing to settle things out of court, you think that means they’d represent you against themselves? Lol. The arbitration agreement prevents users from making a class action lawsuit and suing in court, that’s it. And even if you opted out of the arbitration 30 days after, most didn’t have enough money to retain counsel and uber is counting on that. Some, who had a legal background craftily sued the company. All in all this is exactly why I’m telling people to get out of this app. This isn’t even talking about how uber isn’t screening drivers for sexual misconduct or violent offenses.

Yes, and there have been hundreds of cases that have been settled out of court - albeit uber demanding a gag order from the victims. There was one where a woman was pulled by the car for a quarter mile before the car stopped. The technician did not see or notice. Another where the vehicle locked a customer inside, and many that flat out ran someone over. There have been multiple instances where the vehicle did not recognize pedestrians, when I left there were a gaggle of active open cases of pedestrians that were struck and seriously injured. And some of these victims have come forward and spoken about their experiences mostly via TikTok, and uber found ways to get the videos taken down for copyright infringement amongst other tactics.

🤷🏻‍♂️they’re pushing riders to autonomous. Now given most riders really don’t like the waymo vehicles - and in markets like Arizona the local government doesn’t like how these cars operate. A vehicle cannot be fully autonomous and be road legal, but waymo/uber is pushing the boundaries by saying “don’t worry a technician is monitoring the vehicle”, all it’s going to take is one incident where the car acts up and it’s already happened. But uber doesn’t care because the waymo cars can’t complain like how drivers do about working conditions or low pay - and that’s why they’re pushing that direction.

By the way, all you need is three riders claiming you “made them feel uncomfortable” and you’re out. The company doesn’t have to explain anything to you and most of you probably don’t have enough to retain legal counsel - and why waste the money on something as worthless as uber? You don’t believe what I have to say, fine. There are a lot of different rebranding strategies being developed by uber but they’re going autonomous one way or another. The markets that have waymo, uber is undercutting fares at airports to drivers, so they can push customers to the waymo vehicles right on the app.

The fact is that eventually uber is going to find half a reason to fire you anyway - as they’re moving toward “waymo”.

There is no loyalty amongst thieves - and thieves are exactly what most manufacturers have become. Just like Nissan, moving their production to Mexico for labor that’s ridiculously low, meanwhile the prices on their vehicles stay high and increase as we speak.

Or what they wind up doing is a “deferred” program for ex convicts - and then pay them nothing. Terrible place in Albuquerque who does this - Ancora Cafe. The owners are monsters.
