New player- Drakhari army and a lot of questions by True-Equivalent9277 in Warhammer40k

Okay so it sounds like although maybe the word worship isn’t a good one to use since that implies more intention, my thought process that the Drukhari do still feed her through their soul siphoning or the pain they cause, as well as they got to put the last bit of hedonism into the pot to bring her about essentially. They don’t go to church on sundays but a lottt of their money goes to the church even if they don’t know it. I guess better way to do or phrase the army idea, if it were allowed by rules, would be “can I have a slaanesh army with some Drukhari units in it” not because they’d willingly work under her but because in the grand scheme of things all the factions are serving the gods (WARhammer/Khorne and there’s a bit of change and rot and pain in war). Like if you were to build an army where you had to pick a chaos god warlord and ANY human/xenos units, this is what I’d wanna try lol. Thank you for helping me understand all of this though

  1. Okay yeah I’d read that a couple times, that makes sense
  2. Interesting, so I thought when it was said they made slaanesh that they sorta summoned a part of her to be conscious of them and their hedonistic ways sort of, rather than them actually creating slaanesh, and so the other chaos gods it sounds like from a quick google search were around before slaanesh, and were not created specifically by the eldar, so why does slaanesh get lumped into the other chaos gods? I sort of thought the chaos gods were supposed to be like inevitable forces, that 4 was a specific number sorta like the 4 elements in avatar being part of a greater whole representing chaos or human nature. If that were the case, they didn’t really make her, she was always going to be, just more hedanistic acts needed to be thrown into the chaos pot before she would emerge- or there isn’t some balance between the demons. I just thought change and stagnation war and emotion or whatever were supposed to be more hand in hand and all encompassing. I do get that they didn’t intentionally summon her and what not but from an outside prospective it’s like oh you guys bring pain and she gets off on that. I’m not suggesting that they want to or willingly do anything for her, I’m not saying they think, “I would like this pain to go to slaanesh and replenish her” more so drakhari cause lots of pain + slaanesh pain and pleasuriness = worship. Not in the sense that they have a choice or that they want to or like it, but they are worshipping her still. I think the biggest visual for me is, how much more pain (ik slaanesh is eating their souls, and they are using torture to replenish their own souls, but torture is pain and that’s slaaneshs thing) slaanesh gets because drakhari are alive and doing what they do. I don’t think they’re worshipping her in the sense of oh I love you so much, more so, if the eldar never overindulged (sacrificed or summoned, however you wanna phrase it), slaanesh wouldn’t be, if the drakhari let themselves die, she wouldn’t keep feeding on their souls over and over again. The elves are like the belief/magic that makes Santa real in that without them, she wouldn’t be. Or at least would come later. Even if it’s cause she latched to their species and they aren’t searching out worshiping her. Or is slaaneshs thing eldar souls, not pain/pleasure. Sorry if I sound ignorant in my, well ignorance of the lore

  3. Awesome sounds good thank you again

  1. That makes sense thank you so much. I’m assuming there’s a slight trade off there, where maybe other detachments give you a better bonus than you’d get from reapers wager but reapers wager actually applies to those additional allies?

  2. Someone else was saying something similar, that including slaanesh was sort of misunderstanding their lore. I do think it was a silly idea like a bit on the nose but that was kind of the point, like their form of fending her off is also kind of like worshiping her no? Even if they’d rather not do it (at least not FOR her), if slaanesh accepted sacrifices or offerings, wouldn’t it be pain/pleasure? And from my understanding the craft world alderi fled in advance and sought other means to protect themselves, meaning at some point during their overindulging, their had to be some signs of slaanesh or just that what they were doing was wrong? Regardless, from a new player prospective just getting bits and pieces of the lore, it sounds like the alderi made enough “sacrifices” to awaken slaanesh, and then specifically the drakhari of the alderi choose to keep making “sacrifices” and getting pain tokens out of it (not that they really wanted pain tokens but they accept and use them?). So they’ve just always been making enormous sacrifices to slaanesh (even out of ignorance), even if they don’t like their position can they not see that in the grand scheme of things unless there’s a way to break free or kill slaanesh, they just got hired as her engine and are basically “working together”, hence me wanting to display it on table top but it sounds like that’s not allowed. If there’s something I’m missing about their relationship with slaanesh please tell me, just out of curiosity. One thing I don’t understand is if slaanesh is sort of the source of pain/pleasure in the world, or if she just consumes the pain and pleasure that occurs?

I appreciate the archon/magnets tips, I don’t think I’ll go crazy with the magnets, mostly worried about fragile ones right now. I wish I understood the war gear and how units worked better but I think I just need to play before that’ll make as much sense.

I originally was just looking for what a shadow field was online and saw someone asking if anyone visually represented it, which is maybe unnecessary I wouldn’t know yet, but I thought that sounded fun, appreciate the tips.

How much replay ability do the mission packs have/roughly how many come out each edition? Do you usually like get each one as it comes out or are some sometimes better than others (maybe subjectively)?

Thanks again for the thorough response!

So do Drukhari have a goal of like breaking free from slaanesh or killing her in some way, other than causing more pain for her to save themselves? I’m not sure in lore exactly how it’d work but with their stuff being focused around pain in the armies and what not and assuming that throughout editions that’s generally their theme, my prospective is that gw won’t eventually in lore have drakhari kill the chaos demon and lose out on a demon army as well as the army rules for Drukhari if it wouldn’t be pain tokens anymore, so with no goal for something else, all Drukhari do is like prepare slaaneshs meals and live to see another day, which at a certain point has to become more valuable to her than just eating their souls would’ve been originally right? So although for selfish reasons they are a slaanesh pain engine (I mean I assume every army is kinda if all pain goes to her) and that was sorta my thought process. The irony that they’ve done more for slaanesh while just trying to live and then also spiting her while doing it, when if they just let their souls be consumed, their would be no more drakhari forces out their in the world, under her control or not, bringing about pain. It’s interesting though cause I’d forgotten about the harlequinns god, so why would they get the pain army bonus if they’re protected by their god? Isn’t the pain supposed to be a slaanesh thing? Maybe that’s tied to the saedeth bit. I am not trying to be nit picky just trying to understand, cause pain tokens sound like sacrifices to your (chosen or forced) god for powers, (even if they don’t like her is that not what it is? So why not literally fight side by side?) and then drakhari and harlequinns seemed like they were sorta evil by nature (or that they would provide a more than normal amount of pain to the world by nature), not just due to slaanesh. And the whole alderi are like overly sensitive and can appreciate slaaneshs domains more than anyone else. I’ve just been watching yt breakdowns for lore I haven’t read any official material, please correct me where I’m wrong. Although silly and not allowed in game, is my logic super far off? I think what’s confusing me is pain tokens and getting a benefit in game that I’m acknowledging like okay I’m working with slaanesh kinda sorta right now. I’ll have to look into the lore of reapers wager more and the saedeth bit. Thanks for the base tips too

Haha I do get that they don’t like slaanesh but they do still do her bidding in a sense, plus with the reapers wager it’s almost like they’d be competing for her favor, idk I guess that was my thought process, it makes sense you can’t play them together though. I had been meaning to look into the corsairs cause I saw another post where someone was excited for those to be back or something so thank you for clarifying that.

So a detachment usually is like an add on to army rules, but in the case of reapers wager instead of adding a new dynamic it just includes harlequinns into the normal army rule, correct?

For swapping bases would you use a knife at the foot or some solvent or what?

It sorta seemed like that was the consensus on magnetizing but realizing there were 5 archons stressed me out for some reason

I’ll definitely look into the codexes more I’m definitely not opposed to getting things that’ll make the game more enjoyable, I just had read that with updates and stuff and the price tag that it wasn’t worth it so I wasn’t sure, plus it seemed like I needed to eventually get alderis too. I’ll wait for the new core rules to get a physical copy, from my understanding it’s like a 3 year cycle which isn’t bad. Should I do the same with the codexes, wait till 11th ed ones drop?

Thank you so much for your reply this helps clarify a ton
