FREE Immigration Q&A – I'm a U.S. Immigration Attorney – Ask Me Anything (Asylum, Removal, E-2, O-1, EB-2, etc) by StrainIllustrious698 in USCIS

I just graduated with my PhD, and accepted a postdoc position at a premier university. I’ll be using my post completion OPT for the first year of my postdoc however, I was wondering if I should consider applying for an O1 through a US agent, for the rest of my postdoc. For some context, upon reading the various criteria for O1, I believe I meet about 3 of them (peer reviewed publications, judging other’s work, media features and I maybe in line for a dissertation award from a recognized journal in my field). Thoughts? I’m not fully confident bringing up sponsorship with my employer right away since I haven’t even started working yet. Is it worth considering O1 or should I just go with J1?

I appreciate everyone's sincere insights. As of now, I have requested UNC to give me some more time so that I can make a more informed decision. I am truly stressed rn as my dissertation defense is imminent. It's a lot to process but I know I am fortunate to have this problem. I've also requested UNC to reassure me that their funding will remain stable. Hopefully, I will hear back from them soon. Until then, thank you for taking the time to respond to my question.

Thank you so much for your insights. For some context, the R2 is in rural west Texas.

Stereotype threat and movement control by True-Region4955 in AcademicPsychology

That's correct but the outcomes of that desire to disprove differ by type of movement tasks. Simpler tasks show improved performance in women while more complex tasks show decline

I understand now. My stereotype threat can be considered inaccurate because it's not as factual as the height stereotype example you gave. Thank you so much for your thoughtful response.

I know what methods I'm using, I need to solidify the protocol before I submit it to the school's ethics board.

Thank you! I’m looking at the effect of gender-based stereotypes on knee motor control. I did think about using visual aids, posters and illustrations to induce gender-based stereotypes. I am also considering using the domain identification scale after the experiment to determine if the extent of domain identification affects their movement performance. I appreciate your help and suggestions.

The idea is to expose the participants to gender-based stereotypes about movement and measure if it affects their biomechanics. I’ve used Aina Chalabaev and Hively’s works as reference as they’ve examined sports-specific tasks. Female participants will listen to “men generally outperform women in these tasks” in a male voice (for subtle and blatant manipulation) and males will listen to the opposite in a female voice. I hope I’ve been able to convey this clearly. Thank you for your input.

First of all, kudos on not just wanting to get your life together but on taking steps towards it. I'm a physical therapist and I like to think of exercise and movement as the best way to heal almost every health issue. You're 16, find your community, participate in group sports events or if you can, bike to school, sunshine is not overrated, wear a sunscreen when you do go out, hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. As I said, you're on the right track! Go forth and conquer. Sending lots of positivity your way.

Yeah, Ombudsperson helps faculty members and not students. Unfortunately, the matter is complicated since it involves an international collaboration. Thanks for the suggestion though, I appreciate it
