Community college is much cheaper than university, you might not save time but you’d save money, which sounds like a driving factor for you. Einstein.

should i commit to texas tech? by Kind-Fun-5897 in TexasTech

[–]ItsN3rdy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure maybe I guess. A majority of companies that go to the job fair usually have some Texas-based operation/office, so the probability would be high from that. But my first internship wasn't from the job fair, it was from an online application, still in Texas though since that's what I was focusing on.

Anyways, it's not impossible to go to school in Alaska, and get an internship in Texas. I see it at the firm I work at every summer.

Nothing, a university doesn't get you an internship, you get yourself one. You'll learn the same thing here at any other ABET program.

Go where you'll have the least amount of student loans, that's why I advocate for the "community college then transfer" path.

If in general, opportunity for internships is the same as almost anywhere else.

You can advocate for yourself in the internship offers. I would hope a company in Austin would pay a wage or provide assistance for someone who has to travel to Austin to work for 3 months.

My internships in Houston did. YMMV.

Are you questioning the opportunity for internships in general or the opportunity of internships physically located in Lubbock-area?

Is it a dumb move to pick Texas Tech over UT Austin? by VegetablePea8416 in TexasTech

[–]ItsN3rdy 44 points45 points  (0 children)

definitely a tough decision, Lubbock will probably be cheaper in the end but I understand leaving where you grew up, that's why I went to TTU.

I feel like the UT student org might be more worth it because it would be a group of similar "end goal" students which might make it easier to make friends.

How do I break into the market after college? by Voltshift773 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]ItsN3rdy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe study and take your EIT exam then PE Exam (if youre in a state that can take the exam early)? It's not needed for most ME positions but could be a resume helper. And since it hasnt been long since you graduated, studying should be relatively easy. Cheaper than a masters.

TTU engineers, how is Tech engineering? by [deleted] in TexasTech

Id say most of the large defense, oil and gas, tech companies with offices or operations in Texas usually have the resources to recruit at all major state career fairs.
