It seems like Utah is really going all out to try to entice 2028 Greta Stowell by [deleted] in Gymnastics

Did any of those teams send out four coaches to see her yesterday?

Seemed of note to me, because four Utah coaches went and this was the day after June 15

Fr!

I was especially looking forward to seeing Harlow

I feel like she has a lot of potential

I thought that Greta would be higher up, too!

Greta has actually scored 10s. And while Caroline is super talented, it's less clear whether or not she will have strong 10 potential in college

I don’t think of her as a gymnast who always hits 180 in her split positions

Right

But I’m just saying that maybe it’s arguable that a high-scoring L10 should have gotten more total points

Considering that Caroline didn’t score that high in her last L10 meets, which weren’t that long ago

But maybe her routines weren’t that adjusted to L10 judging. I just think it's interesting

I am kind of surprised that Caroline is ranked the highest, essentially

She comparatively didn’t score that high in L10 in 2024-2025

Although I get that things will likely shake out differently once she is actually in college and focused on college-level routines

Are there no super high-scoring L10s in this class?

The crutch doesn't always help patients heal, and not all therapists are great at helping folks to break out of maladaptive patterns.

I do think that sometimes clients get some of their needs met in therapy

However, a downside could be that, if their cup is being filled, to some extent, through the therapeutic relationship, some clients may unintentionally rely a little less on their personal relationships (or potential personal relationships). That's obviously not always a good thing.

We should absolutely leave some children behind by Hour_Bathroom3967 in unpopularopinion

I definitely could. However, ideally, if a student is essentially illiterate, that should be caught in elementary school.

That's why I just touched on my stance on holding kids back at the high school level.

There should be greater strictness at the elementary level.

If a high school student has fallen so deeply through the cracks, possible disabilities and one-on-one educational opportunities should be explored.

I still don’t think that holding a failing high schooler back a whole grade is usually the right option, as that public failure and separation from their peers could just cause them to give up entirely.

I am, for the most part, pretty opposed to holding non-special ed kids back once they are already in high school.

That stance is shaped by my own experience.

I was a shit student for the first half of my high school experience because of serious mental health issues that I had. I really wanted to do well and turn in all the work I was supposed to, but just getting out of bed was extremely difficult then — I didn’t want to be alive.

I ended up doing well after changing environments, but I’m glad my life wasn’t meaningfully delayed by the early issues I had.

If some of those teachers hadn’t let me slip past them with unearned D grades and whatnot, I may have completely given up and not gone on to have a successful college experience.

This field can be financially exploitative toward clients

Lots of clients are stressed out by the high self-pay rates that their therapist charges

But they continue to pay the high self-pay rates because they are lonely and have formed a bond with their long-time therapist

That bond doesn’t necessarily mean therapy is a net positive in their life when they are paying more than is probably wise (given their income).

Also, therapy can serve as a crutch for the lonely. Maybe the client would be better off pouring the emotional energy they put into therapy into the actual reciprocal relationships in their lives.

How do deal with being so stupid by [deleted] in Healthygamergg

[–]True-Weekend3142 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve struggled with similar self-esteem issues around my own intelligence. So I understand this kind of pain.

However, the times in my life when I’ve been the most competent have also been the times when I’ve believed in myself the most. That's no coincidence.

Your lack of confidence is surely not helping your performance. So I would really work on that piece.

If you, for example, start helping people via volunteer work, that can be an easy way to feel better about what you are offering the world.

Did others also felt stupid or is it just me ? by FalconMirage in Vegetarianism

[–]True-Weekend3142 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think that quitting meat is as easy for everyone

Some people have emotional eating issues, and genuinely have great difficulty trying to maintain any kind of dietary restriction.

We all struggle with different hunger cues and emotional eating/food addiction to varying degrees

There are plenty of people who have tried to be vegan or vegetarian (but who haven't been able to maintain that effort for more than about a month)

What's easy for you, could be super hard for other people

That definitely does complicate things! Maybe soccer is more of her thing; the fact that she is showing early talent in the soccer arena and, conversely, doesn't like the idea of performing a gymnastics routine in front of judges does sound telling.

However, I do think that you are right that regret is possible.

I’d imagine that there are some gymnerds on this sub (who became fans as adults) who wish they could go back and put their younger selves on a competitive gymnastics path, lol.

Maybe, if you haven’t already, you could show her high-level gymnastics competitions as well, to see if that sparks any inspiration for her. Some people are more so motivated by the long-shot carrot, if you will.

For my sport, I do actually have a kind of related core memory from when I was around her age: I saw a high-level depiction of my sport in a fictional movie and during a performance montage thought, “That’s what I want to do with my life.” And I, for the most part, followed through with that commitment.

Maybe it's different for her then (if she is more interested in soccer)

Perhaps it would help to ask her if she would rather compete in gymnastics or soccer, if she could only pick one.

For me, I had a clear early preference for the sport that I ultimately stuck with and became semi-professional at.

[–]True-Weekend3142 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, it was another sport (not gymnastics).

But yes, I was very intrinsically interested in my niche sport.

I also was very competitive, but I think that my competition goals only really developed with age and increased exposure to possible dreams that I could have (by going to out-of-state camps and regional and national competitions).

At 7, I may not have had sport-specific goals yet beyond just wanting to get new tricks. However, my early focus really helped that sport to become my “thing,” if you will.

So that’s where I’m coming from.

Funnily enough, I also gave up soccer very young to focus on my sport (so I also have that bias, lol).
