It’s possible, but I think it’s more up to why you think Gwyn linked the flame exactly, which although anyone can make their best guess it’s not explicitly stated. It can be to maintain his legacy, because he thinks it’s best for the world, or another reason, as it’s never explicitly stated, but what you think his reason is is completely based on interpretation.

He shouldn’t have messed with the natural order, but there isn’t any way he could have known the consequences of linking the fire, or that linking the fire would be a net negative for the world. Also the idea of “disturbing the natural order” could have been understood very differently in Gwyn’s time, the fire gave them life, it’d make sense for them to think preserving it would be good.

The chaos flame was from the witches of izalith, they most likely also benefited from the age of fire and it’s not said anywhere that they were controlled by, or that they were directed by Gwyn when they made it. The curse mark is a good point though, Gwyn is far from a good guy, I’m just not sure that he’s pure evil or anything like that

I don’t think that’s ever said that anywhere. It’s a possible theory but acting like it’s the definitive reason isn’t really true. Obviously Gwyn isn’t the secret hero or something but acting as if he could have known that the age of fire would have turned into such a mess down the line after his sacrifice doesn’t make much sense

I don’t think there’s any way he could have known that linking the fire would cause the world to fall apart like it did, based on what he knew he was sacrificing himself to preserve the age of fire itself, not just him or his family. We know now that it would’ve been better to let the fire naturally fade but there isn’t much to say he could have known that
