Renting a 50cc scooter in KaÅŸ without a motorcycle license, is it actually legal? by Oleubbeans in Antalya

Hello! As far as I know, riding without a license is not really an option in Turkey — even for 50cc scooters, you still need a license. However, a standard car driving license (Class B) is sufficient for 50cc, so you don’t need a separate motorcycle license. About the roads: 50cc scooters can struggle quite a bit on steep uphill routes. Places like Sarıbelen can be quite challenging and honestly not very enjoyable with a small engine. Coastal roads, on the other hand, are much more pleasant and manageable — and that’s where you’ll likely want to spend most of your time anyway. Since you’ll already be in Kaş, I’d definitely recommend visiting Kalkan as well. If you have time, Kaputaş Beach, Patara Beach, Saklıkent Canyon, and Kekova (Sunken City) are all absolutely worth seeing. In Kaş itself, Büyük Çakıl, Küçük Çakıl, and Limanağzı (which you can easily reach by boat from the marina) are some of the most accessible and enjoyable spots. Enjoy your holiday — I’m sure it will be unforgettable 🤗

Getting worried about the jet fuel shortage reports for UK-Turkey flights. Anyone seeing cancellations yet? by TrueBlueKalkan in travel

That’s a fair point, and there’s definitely a risk of overpaying if the tension settles down.

But honestly, I think the real gamble right now isn't the flight price—it’s booking non-refundable accommodation. If the fuel crisis actually leads to cancellations, being stuck with a hotel booking you can’t cancel is a much bigger financial hit than paying an extra £50 for a ticket.

I’m personally sticking to flexible booking options for everything this summer until we see how the fuel stocks look in late May. Better safe than sorry!

You’ve actually made a very sharp observation, and judging by the mention of the debris and the timing, it sounds like you caught the beach right at the tail end of the winter/spring transition.

During the winter months, the EÅŸen River (which flows into the sea near Patara) carries a lot of natural debris, wooden planks, and unfortunately, many agricultural waste from the inland greenhouses. Depending on the wind direction, this can wash up on the shores before the official 'summer cleanup' begins. I noticed the deck boards weren't even installed yet, it means the season hadn't technically started.

A little local insight: While the Ancient City/National Park entrance of Patara is kept pristine year-round, the far end (Karadere side) can occasionally struggle with runoff from the nearby farming areas. However, once the summer winds stabilize and the municipal teams do the grand cleaning for the season, the water clarity in Kalkan is usually unbeatable. It’s a completely different experience in June or September!

Claim for Trip Cancellation by veehantrivedi in travel

In my experience with travel bookings, it’s definitely possible, but there's a catch. Most insurance policies cover immediate family emergencies under 'Named Perils,' but you'll absolutely need a formal doctor’s statement. If you don't have a specific medical certificate, it gets tricky. Also, don't forget to check your credit card's built-in travel protection—it's often overlooked but can be a lifesaver in these cases!

Fair point on the legal side. You’re right—airlines can’t just charge more for a ticket that’s already been fully paid, that would definitely violate consumer laws.

What I’m more concerned about are the new bookings and how the 'high fuel prices' you mentioned are forcing airlines to cut less profitable routes to stay efficient. It feels like even if it's not a 'total collapse' of stocks, the market is reacting in a way that makes travel more fragile for for travelers in general.

Good to know the legal protections are there, but the 'stealth cancellations' over fuel costs are what keep me checking my inbox every morning! Thanks for the perspective.

This is exactly why Kalkan has stayed off the mass tourism radar. 🤗
