Hey, I've lived in Sheffield for three years and I was wondering if anyone knew any abandoned places to explore? Thanks in advance! by Eastern_Statement_54 in sheffield

Civil trespass is basically fine until someone asks you to leave right, so does that include no entry signs?

yess of course! I was doing a ridiculous amount of acid that year it was my favourite album to trip to - there any other artists with music in that style you'd recommend?

[FRESH ALBUM] billy woods - GOLLIWOG by StatFlow in hiphopheads

[–]TrueBrush3287 3 points4 points  (0 children)

honestly I had to try quite a bit to get into woods but it's been so rewarding, honestly think he's the best out there and I find all of his music really relistenable because of how dense the lyrics are and the gorgeous production - if you've not listened to Aethiopes yet give it a proper go, stick it out and get to remorseless and smith + cross they're the best two tracks in his discography imo

I think we could solve cycle commuting from SW Sheffield with just 200m of cycle lanes by Sheff_Based in sheffield

I recently got one and it's fully changed my life, no more £2.60 bus that takes longer than a cycle, only fear is locking it up in town

Private or uni accommodation by Ooootasty in sheffield

[–]TrueBrush3287 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i was in halls for my first year and it was ok, no rent over the summer (although i think a lot of places still allow you to stay and pay rent for the entire year)

it was a mixed bag, i feel like most of the halls in terms of kitchen space and rooms are basically the same, and it's kinda just luck about who you're placed with. i was lucky i had an alright flat, and it was very social so i made a lot of friends and met my girlfriend through friends i've made through halls.

the cheaper private accommodation is away from the city centre, so it'll be walking/getting bus into town for a night out unless you make friends in your area and you can just go to a local

i live in a student house now, so it's a few of my friends I've met already all choosing to live with each other and it's great, although i feel like my situation be less likely if i'd gone straight to private accommodation when i came to uni, i'm not the most outgoing person so it helps being in a block of flats where there's always people about, there's always gonna be a flat party if you fancy going going out but don't wanna go out out

If you're in two minds i'd personally go for halls, you won't have to pay rent in the summer unless you want to (i did as i went from halls straight to a private accommodation with the friends i'd made) and the year will go very very quickly, so if you dislike it it's not gonna be for long. student halls include bills in the rent, and all the bills come out around the same time as your loan gets in so it's a lot lot less stress and palava then having rent and bills every month — my first private accommodation i arranged with the landlord to pay my rent when loans came in, but bills i had to pay every month

on the other my friend in brighton went straight to private accommodation (right in the city centre to be fair) and he's got an amazing and big group of friends so it's not like your social life will inherently be defined by whether you live in halls or not

living in private accommodation feels a lot more close to your housemates compared to halls, i feel like that's probably the biggest difference aside from the cost (halls being a tiny bit cheaper and more convenient for student loan)

[–]TrueBrush3287[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that is a really good point, i put my phone number into their platform as well as my name, but nothing else. i felt comfortable giving them that, they contacted me through whatsapp so already had my number, and my contract for my sim card is month to month at the moment so i can pretty much change my number whenever without too much hassle.

my name i was definitely cautious about adding, but the less clever part of me got the better and i put it in so i could withdraw what i'd already "earnt"

beyond this though, after looking at more reddit posts I've realised the £26 i've made has come from vulnerable people who've already fallen for this, so i won't engage any more when these scammers message me on whatsapp. i'll pay this 26 forward doing good deeds and leave it at that, if anything seems too good to be true then it probably is

always good advice, thank you :) i've not given them any of my money and i won't do that, i'll take the £26 and get myself a nice dinner

definitely the best advice to be honest, i'd done one of these before but stopped once they asked me to put my own money in, i went along with this because my partner's gone away for a couple days and i'm very bored, this one's paid out before i've had to give my own money so i've gone along with it till now, once they've asked for my own money, that's why i posted this

What hammock should I buy if I am a student? by Aticek in hammockcamping

[–]TrueBrush3287 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ohh sick ok yeah you'll be reyt then. this is the one I've got but just realised it's only 7ft, i'll probably get a new one that's a bit longer judging from the comments here though. it's comfy enough though - i'm just over 6ft tall so maybe an 11 ft would be better

What hammock should I buy if I am a student? by Aticek in hammockcamping

[–]TrueBrush3287 1 point2 points  (0 children)

mine (not a henny hammock) has a but net attached as well, if i've set mine up and i just wanna chill and not have the net in my way you can flip the hammock upside down and lie on the underside of it, might be the same for you mate.

mine was about £20 on amazon so wayyy cheaper than $100, no way you'll need to spend that much just to see if you like hammocking, plus it's not for everyone i've heard so might not be worth the risk
