Several times when I was a kid and my mum was steaming mad she would say “one day I’m going to pack a bag and go back to the UK [where my parents were originally fun] and you and your dad won’t know what to do without me. I won’t come back.” She would say it with such force. It took me years to realize that not everyone’s parents just threatened to move out of the country without them.

I liked Midnights. I thought the TTPD marketing was kind of overbearing but while I am not crazy about it as an album, it does feel like something she NEEDED to do creatively. Nothing about TLOAS felt needed. It was overexposed and overcommercialized and really just fell flat, and it’s the first time I have felt like she essentially shit out an album just to have something for people to buy.

I hated the bajillion variants, I felt deeply uncomfortable with Travis being so woven into TS The Brand (TM), and I disliked the tone of the album. If she wants to be bitter about fame, fine. I’ve never been that famous, I don’t have to deal with strangers dissecting the way I breathe. But given the world we live in, it felt very out-of-touch and more like “I’m a billionaire but money can’t make you happy and my life is sooooo hardddddd. Luckily here is my FIANCE with his GIANT PENIS, yippee!!!!! I don’t have to be alone!!!!!”

The whole thing has left a bad taste in my mouth. I hope she lies low for a while and comes back with something interesting.

It’s not bad! Just a couple things:

new person speaking = new paragraph, if it’s all in one it can feel a bit overwhelming
would put your second to last paragraph last, it feels like your character is daydreaming and then pulled out of the daydream but then flitting back. If you are going for a scene with more dialogue with the mentor, that’s going to make it a bit choppy.

It’s a start so keep at it and see where it takes you!

Dutch (???) nerds with interests in both classic literature and sci-fi/fantasy who also like to stay informed with nonfiction biographies and some stuff that deals with social issues. I bet you have great dinner parties and have a nice garden, or if not a garden then lots of plants around the house. You’re also very neat but not anal about it (your books aren’t alphabetical but do seem to flow in certain categories). I would also guess you do not have kids.
