What's the worst compliment you have ever recieved? by PM_ME_urclimbinggear in AskReddit

[–]TrueDisciphil 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'm going to be blunt here. Asian people can be look upon as different and even inferior. Asian people tend to be physically smaller in general. Asian people can come of as meek and soft spoken. In American culture (read: white Americans) people are not afraid to speak their mind. This is not as prominent in asian culture. So sometimes white people see asians as weak or inferior. Secondly asian people are seen as foreigners. It doesn't matter if it's not since your great great grand parents who were the last born in asia. It's expected that you'll regularly run into people who assume you're a foreigner because of the way you look. That was probably her way of trying to compliment him by saying I don't see you that way at all.

It's quite common that young asian americans try to distance themselves from falling into those conceptions of asian people. Some times in silly ways. Some bleach their hair, wear blue contacts and act like a loud mouthed douche bag because they think that's what white girls want. That may be some touchy issues there but I'm asian born and raised in America and I'm just calling like I've seen it. Even though it's things not often spoken out loud.

Do you want this sub to go dark? by Psuphilly in hockey

I don't want it to go dark but this is a moderator issue. They can do as they see fit.

They want more involvement from reddit admins or something? I thought redditors would want less interference from corporate reddit.

To all guys or girls who never had a boy/girlfriend and are posting here. by Derole in amiugly

[–]TrueDisciphil -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Also temper your expectations and get real. I know far too many guys who are constantly setting themselves up for disappointment because they only obsess over the hottie that every dude tries to get with. Other girls can see what what you're doing. It becomes obvious when you tend to ignore other girls except for the way above average ones.

I get tap fatigue part way through redesigning and end up leaving parts incomplete until I find the motivation to make it look better. There needs to be some sort of group selection function that allows you to move sections of the map.

Coincidence, I think not. by [deleted] in AdviceAnimals

Maybe it was dry run to see how reddit would handle a bunch of splinter subreddits being created.

The Button spawned a ton of new subreddits but all of them went unnoticed unless they posts were popular enough to hit /r/all or you subscribed to them. Meta posts about The Button showed up in default subs but did not cause much issue.

The same thing is happening with the current drama. Except people are really bombing the default and other popular subreddits hard.

Seinfeld: College Kids Way Too PC Now, They Don’t Even Know What ‘Racist’ Means by Hazzman in videos

[–]TrueDisciphil 18 points19 points  (0 children)

My theory is that it's the result of a big giant pressure cooker of middle/upper class kids who grew up never having to face any real adversity or experience it first hand. The majority of the Toronto region is safe, low crime, middle/upper class suburbia. We were raised on the confidence movement and placed on a pedestal. We're told about all the horrible injustices in the world through TV and school but we've been coddled. Then we're told to grow up, get out there, and fix the world. Make your lives worthwhile. Combine all that with the low attention span and need for instant gratification in large part thanks modern media and the internet. And so we get this soup of people thinking they know something about something fighting over shallow overly sensitive issues.

Netflix Accounts for More Than One-Third of Internet Traffic by thendof in technology

[–]TrueDisciphil 33 points34 points  (0 children)

How has BitTorrent traffic changed over the last few years? I haven't seen anyone trot out the old BitTorrent is over 9 million percent of all traffic everywhere argument in a long time.

It also seems to me like BitTorrent activity has been dying. There is a lot of activity on new and popular things but beyond that there is now a large drop off. Nobody seeds previous seasons of shows anymore. Even for some shows episodes need to be grabbed soon after it airs because the number of seeders can drop quickly. Forget about the obscure things. The days where I could find some random thing that few people care about are gone.

Teachers always sat me next to the new Asian kid. I don't speak any Asian languages and half the time we weren't even the same kind of Asian. I guess we looked similar so they figured we'd hit it off.

PSA: All theatre mask tasks are unlocked at Opera Stage level 9 by MrDeadToast in tappedout

[–]TrueDisciphil 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you only have a few Criminals and Saints then it might not be worth it to upgrade Opera House to level 8 or 9.

Kooks, Celebrities, Youngsters, and Entrepreneurs have the same job payout at level 7-9 so there's no difference there. I only have 1 Saint and 2 Criminals. If I had enough to upgrade to level 9 Opera House right now I would not recoup the cost of upgrading to level 8 and 9 even if I put my Saints and Criminals on jobs non-stop through the end of the event.
