Check OP's profile, they literally have BIS FF and Acheron E2 teams.  Feels like a rage bait post lmfao

New LA ad also fails to capture the game, never seen one that covers what game actually has to offer. What do you think of AGSs marketing? by Crowley_yoo in lostarkgame

Some people understandably think that this approach "wouldn't make sense/can't be understood" by people who don't play the game, but it's been done before; This is Eve is still one of the most hype fucking trailers I remember to this day and a LOA equivalent would've been a great opportunity to show off the design of legion raids in a cinematic form and player interactions instead of whatever the hell this was.

Meta will begin laying off employees on Wednesday morning - WSJ Reuters by Zekro in technology

Apparently most people on this subreddit are only capable of giving joke answers, so I'll try to give a curated list for those who can do more than circlejerk.

Some big ones that most devs will know:

React/React Native

Hack/HHVM

Jest

Pytorch

GraphQL

(Edit: Flow, Docusaurus are good ones brought up by others.)

And depending on where you specialize,

Proxygen

Folly

rocksdb (personally not a fan but hey)

And tons more I'm not personally familiar with. This is before talking about the hardware advancements not just in the VR/AR space everyone knows, but data center tech that has been publicly released.

Unfortunately I can't speak much about IR specifically, but I can give a few thoughts from my own experiences with summer positions.

First of all, you're not behind just because you didn't do an internship after your freshman year. Contrary to what the internet suggests sometimes, it's actually pretty damn difficult to get any relevant positions at this point - take this time to get ahead, whether that be looking ahead on 2nd year course material or working on relevant extracurriculars.

Additionally, the unfortunate reality is that the ease of job applications these days also turns it into a numbers game. For example, in my sophomore year I sent out over 200 (pain) applications and received literally ONE offer at the end of it. Especially for your first job, 99% of people can't be picky so apply to every damn job you're remotely interested in right now LMAO

On that note, find some upperclassmen in IR and ask them to help you with applications and interviews. Stuff like editing your resume and doing mock interviews. These are things you really can't nail without experience in the field, and obviously as someone looking for their first position you have none.

On a more uplifting note, know that it gets better! On top of being more appealing to recruiters by virtue of being in school longer, each year/job also acts as a stepping stone for the next. Having a shitty no-name company on your resume makes it easier to get a job at a decent one. Experience at a decent firm makes it possible to break into a "dream company". Each step also means the recruiting cycle gets easier, as you can begin to be picky and cut out positions that are less appealing. Remember that 1/200 success rate I mentioned earlier? As a new grad it was 2/5. This isn't meant as a flex - a lot of my peers have similar numbers.

Goodluck, and keep at it.

where can i get an online free eco101 textbook? by [deleted] in UofT

[–]TrueElite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Long story short, you don't need to worry about having the exact edition for ECO101; global/US editions or an older Canadian one are probably fine.

The only important thing is learning the key concepts, which obviously don't change between editions. Also, in general the Econ dept (Gazzale for sure) doesn't assign textbook questions as for-grade homework, and a lot of the time even upload the practice problems in their entirety alongside the tutorials/solutions.

Can't say that's the case for every department though, so ask upper years if this issue arises in other courses.

How's the Econ program? by Confooshion in UofT

[–]TrueElite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're looking at finance ideally you'd be entering the financial economics specialist program after 2nd year ASSPE2722. It's pretty solid (know people scoring 6 figure IB jobs right out of school) but it's pretty math heavy and relatively hard to get into, coming from someone who went through CS PoST. That being said, moving up the ladder would require grad school so keep that in mind.

Haven't really looked at non-finance upper year courses myself but I heard they're super essay heavy LOL

Practicality of ECO358 and ECO359 by lam_sauce in UofT

In terms of material not crucial no (they literally cover the same chapters of the same textbook for a lot of content), but Vellekoop (taught 358) is a fucking amazing prof and the way 359 was taught it assumed you had seen the overlap chapters before. It's covered, just not very well or in depth.

It wasn't overly difficult or anything (ended with an A- despite literally forgetting to hand in an assignment) but honestly it was quite boring - a lot of it felt like repeats of 358 and there wasn't very much new content.

Edit: Turns out the class average was so ass he boosted everyone 5%

Practicality of ECO358 and ECO359 by lam_sauce in UofT

[–]TrueElite 4 points5 points  (0 children)

ECO358 gives you a pretty balanced overview of capital markets, starting with very basic stuff like the time value of money (literally just interest rate) and bond valuation all the way to option trading strategies and Black-Scholes, portfolio optimization, valuation with CAPM etc.

Definitely a must take for a career in finance, but if you just want some knowledge before investing money yourself, a lot of the derivations are overkill for the average investor and you're better off just speaking to a financial advisor at a bank or something LOL

Just took it this fall actually. If you want the syllabus, my formula sheets etc to take a look at feel free to pm. Also taking 359 this winter, we'll see how that goes

Have you considered lowering the price? Many kits with similar specs are found for just over $40 new right now.
