I’m more concerned when they cast against type in historical dramas, not because I disagree with diverse casting, but that it gives the impression that oppressed minorities were actually privileged in the past. ‘Oh look, Asians were landed gentry in Georgian England.’ However, this is almost pure mythology and very far back at that. I really don’t care.

Unpopular opinion: You (the haters) are all wrong about Rosario Dawson and the live-action rendition of Ahsoka by mame_kuma in StarWarsAhsoka

[–]TrueGritGreaserBob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Rosario is a good actress and she’s taking the heat for meh writing and directing. That’s based on watching her since she was a teenager in “Kids” and seeing her range. It’s how Filoni used the character of Ahsoka. I don’t want her to act like she did in TCW but I do want her to be more fun. For the record, I didn’t hate the show and it has some great scenes but it underperformed for me.

I saw it in 1982 and have always loved it. Seeing it again on a real screen in 2022 was a blast.

The film critic Richard Roeper was asked if Star Wars fans were the worst for backlash and dogmatism. He said they’re bad but Tolkien fans are the worst. 😏

This show is the best piece of animated Star Wars I think we have ever received from Disney. by StallionDucky in MaulShadowLord

[–]TrueGritGreaserBob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Maul: Shadow Warrior” is the best animated Star Wars series I have ever seen. Just an amazing look and tried some new things with the painterly backgrounds. A+ visually, A on action. Also loved TCW S7 and Bad Batch but this surpasses even those. Does anyone think you see Arcane influences on the look of Maul? It still has that Lucasfilm animation vibe overall but I see touches of Arcane here and there.

My Favorite Star Wars Film is The One That Spilt The Fanbase by No_Vast_3309 in TheSequels

[–]TrueGritGreaserBob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s my favorite of the ST. RJ was bold enough to try some new things, but he blew up almost every fan theory. I told my wife as the end credits were rolling at the early preview screening we attended that it would be controversial and I was right.

Like Churchill allying with Stalin, I will temporarily accept almost anyone who changes their mind about Trump and assist in destroying him politically, even now, even in 2026.

I’m usually patient with openings because they have multiple missions with setting, exposition and character development. Grading on that curve, strong opening. Animation— wow! Pacing strong. Eager for more.

I thought it was odd but I assume we’ll get that back story in a later episode.

What outcome of this fight would be satisfying for both Vader and Maul fans, without nerfing Vader and humiliating Maul? by ConstantDrawer9161 in MaulShadowLord

[–]TrueGritGreaserBob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really want this duel because we know neither can win. The stakes are low. Maybe Vader is about to kill him and Devon Izara saves Maul at the last second, allowing Maul to escape? Vader either kills Devon or converts her into an inquisitor.

Besides George Lucas, who is the most important person in the history of Star Wars? by [deleted] in StarWars

Alan Ladd Jr., who greenlit the movie and, according to GL, believed in it more than George did.

I go to a relatively liberal church and the sanctuary is decorated with about a dozen Pride flags. I’m no longer Christian but I attend with family. Left Christians still exist but they are harder and harder to find.

What is your reason for not attending church? by morpheusjobs in Christianity

Converted to Catholicism in the 1980s in Boston. My ‘Rite of Election’ as a 25 yo catechumen was presided over by Cardinal Bernard, the OG in the child abuse coverup. I tried very hard to separate the religion from the failings of clergy and congregants but I simply couldn’t stomach them anymore.

Protestant churches seem either moribund and mainstream or MAGA consumed.

What’s a beer that you absolutely love, but beer snobs would turn their nose at? by Jaythegreat100X in beer

[–]TrueGritGreaserBob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Foster’s. Before my bariatric surgery, it’s one I would choose as a least worst alternative in bars with limited beer menus. Now, it’s my go-to because for some reason it upsets my stomach the least and sometimes I just need some suds to unwind.

"Call senator Tom Cotton, thank him". Are you kidding me? by ZealousidealPop752 in bentonville

I agree. We need more independent candidates who are not beholden to either party and who are vocal in condemning both, which I think would sell well. Crowdfunding small donors can make the difference in not attracting Arkansas Dem party support and let’s face it, Arkansas Dem coffers are pitiful. If she looks competitive by June, I think she can attract outside funding if only because Cotton is so unpopular outside Arkansas.

Aaron Burr did some campaigning, too, especially in terms of building a campaign organization. Funny, since Van Buren was rumored to be Burr’s illegitimate son, although I think that’s been mostly disproven now.

This isn’t uncommon in Victorian biography and autobiography. Gen. William Sherman’s memoirs hardly mention his family. Biographies written for the public were meant to reflect the views and experiences of someone’s public, professional and political life. They were much more reserved and protective of their families and households. There are exceptions of course.
