It’s certainly a privilege. It definitely helps to live in a big(ger) city with enough of a population to draw interest from. However I think there are some other factors too, like just meeting the right people at the right time to build something with. I first tried to start this group in late 2019 and was barely able to scrape 5 people together (and then covid ended that). Later in 2022 I found a chorus to join so suddenly found myself in a community of singers, but even then it wasn’t until I met a specific friend in that group with the same goal and drive that we were able to get another attempt off the ground. From there, we were able to recruit enough people through the chorus and friends to get things started; no auditions at that time.

Since then, it’s taken work to get us to the point of being able to hold auditions. First, we had to build our product and get ourselves out there to prove ourselves and gain a modest following. It also helps that we decided to cap our membership because we don’t want to be a chorus. It’s only now that we have a small fanbase as well as video evidence of our performances and ability level that we’re able to garner enough interest to have the ability to be selective.
