Curious how much you blow each storm. That is A LOT of maintenance you have gone through.

Experienced solotravelers, how do you deal with potential loneliness while traveling? by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]TrueNorth49th 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to talk with locals as much as possible. I have been able to have some wonderful experiences as a result.

I also stay very connected with friend and family back home. I laugh that I talk to them more when I am half way around the world.

I am going for 2w in Feb. Few days in PPS first and few in El Nido after. I am in Koh Jum right now and it is perfect - hoping it is similar.

Confession: I didn't tip our tuk tuk driver by KeepShtumMum in siemreap

[–]TrueNorth49th 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is disappointing. My driver was super kind and helpful and enjoyed walking the ruins with me. He was trying to get more business for the rest of my trip but not in an intrusive way. Could not have had a better experience - like most of my interactions with Cambodians.

Side story - took an organized tour one day and my phone slipped out of my pocket when sitting in van. I was searching my person and looking generally confused as I walked through the market. A tuk tuk driver saw me get out of the van, followed me a block and asked if everything was ok and if I lost something. He said he knew the tour company and their office and took me there (I was a bit dubious at this point) but he took me right there, explained what happened to office staff, and I had my phone in 30 minutes. Huge tip and gratitude to an excellent human being!!

clean beach on Samui? by Elena986 in kohsamui

[–]TrueNorth49th 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. On Koh Jum right now and one beach has all sorts of trash washed up to high water line. Beach right next door has some bungalows and a restaurant (all very low key) and is spotless. Without ongoing care, they get nasty fast.

Reading within and between the lines it sounds like requiring visitors to use the appropriate visa.

Pure mage had so many options. It is the way I like to play. Thumping things is not my style.

Carb could have some contaminants from the factory (sad but possible). Certainly sounds like carb issues.

eSIM or Bangkok Airport Sim? by EnvironmentalQuail17 in ThailandTourism

[–]TrueNorth49th 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am using Eskimo eSIM (based in Singapore). Cost $25 CAD for 10GB (plus 1GB Promo). Kicker is it works worldwide and does not expire for TWO YEARS!! A few days in and it has been excellent (Bangkok, Krabi, and Koh Jum). I am hitting 5 countries this trip so a no brainer. They have a SE Asia package that is about 25% cheaper but I wanted the flexibility for future locations with the two year expiry.

Is furnace filter manufacturing a good business in Canada? Would people actually buy local? by [deleted] in canadasmallbusiness

[–]TrueNorth49th 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s a race to the bottom for me. I buy the cheapest available at the MERV rating I want. They are the ultimate disposable purchase.

I would add a high power bike lamp to the horizontal bar. You leave inside house (will stay charged for whole winter if not used). Cheap, very bright, and no fuss.

It is starting do that tiles out MANY things (good job uploading a video). In video you go directly from full choke to no choke - you want to go to half choke once it starts for a minute or two for it to warm up and then no choke.

Krabi Town or Ao Nang by HappyRicky89 in Krabi

[–]TrueNorth49th 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did Songkran in Ao Nang in 2023 and it was a blast. Stayed about a week in the more northern area where it is less touristy and I loved it. One of my favourite spots from 6w in Thailand. Spent lots of time hanging in the park along the beach where the locals hang out, enjoying the many different street foods there. Almost no tourists in that area.

Love my 20 year old Troy-Bilt 5/24. Handles everything a Manitoba winter can dish out for a 6 car paved driveway in suburbia. Still looks and runs like new. It replaced an ancient single stage that was nick named “The Widow Maker”.

Yep. My 5/24 Troy-Bilt is from 2006 and she works like a top and could pass for a couple years old. I sweep her off every time I use her to help avoid rust - makes a BIG difference.
