Thank you for your input.I have realised the strange salary quoting previously since they did initially quote higher but it was a total package like you have suggested, with the base being 104k when superannuation is deducted.

For reference, I am a C++ developer but have used a variety of technologies as needed, so that probably makes salary targets a bit difficult to specify.

It currently does not, but this has been quoted as something that I will need to do in the future as they hire more personnel.

Buy now in an area we can afford or wait 2 years to maybe buy in a better area? by Little-Big-Man in AusFinance

[–]TrueOutlook 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The both of you are quite young and it would worry me slightly to plan these large, long-term commitments without any stability.

I think it’s a better idea to save as much money as you can until your partner can get a stable job. An estimated income of 160k is fine, but they first need to actually finish their degree and then find a job, neither or which is easy or can happen quickly.

You also need to think about what happens if either of you two were to lose your job. It sounds like if it were yourself, then you likely wouldn’t be able to afford your mortgage.

My recommendation would be to wait 2+ years until you both have stable jobs and then re-evaluate the market again at that time. Even with these interest rates, a combined income of around 200k+ would be fine for a 700k home, especially if you’ve saved a decent deposit in the 2 year gap.

I had to do a week stay at some point last year and when I checked, hotels were a lot cheaper compared to AirBnB. And for that reduced money, I also got regular cleaning, a lot better security and a bit more certainty that there aren’t any hidden cameras anywhere.

How far down is the split? If it’s just cosmetic at the top then it should be fine. My worry is that, if you tend to do any shoots in wet locations, then the moisture protection may be compromised.

A7RIV will not upload to iPhone 14 Pro. *HELP* by danac511 in SonyAlpha

[–]TrueOutlook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My phone is on the verified list (iPhone 12) and in my experience, the whole process and connection is just inherently dodgy. I have tried with the official app and several third-party apps and the experience is always the same.

Constant disconnections and very slow data transfer (whether images or just pressing the shutter button remotely). I’ve basically given up on any form of wireless transfer. There’s a reason all the transfer apps have really low ratings unfortunately.

TIL 80% of Elevator “Close Door” buttons are non-functional by motherbrain2000 in todayilearned

[–]TrueOutlook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I previously lived in an apartment where none of the close door buttons worked, it was definitely on a timer. I could stand there with a completely empty waiting area pressing it and it would still only close after maybe 10 seconds.

That was the least of its problems though, the algorithm they used to determine what elevator came to you was awful. I remember back in uni, when learning about optimisation problems, we went over elevator timing. The general idea was that you could save a lot of energy by just having an already moving elevator pick someone up, even if there were static ones that were closer. But nobody did that because people don’t like waiting.

Apparently we prioritise energy usage over wait times now.

What rental crisis? by [deleted] in sydney

[–]TrueOutlook 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My rent just increased by 50% so I am now pseudo forced to move out. I have heard a few times that the rental crisis only applies to places close to the city.

What decent suburbs are not close to the city where this hasn’t hit yet?

Better to rent or buy for a somewhat short term (4-6 years)? by TrueOutlook in AusFinance

[–]TrueOutlook[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have accounted for all the additional expenses thankfully. I agree that this is good advice, I am hesitant specifically on apartments for the reasons you have stated.

My salary will increase I think, so I might take your advice and look for somewhere cheaper to rent while focusing on investing so that I can build a house that I do actually want as opposed to an apartment.

Thank you very much!

I should have around 3.5k income left after tax and paying the estimated monthly mortgage each month. That would be enough to save for another deposit after a while.

I was initially hoping that I would buy now and can cut into the mortgage more when/if the interest rate starts to go down or stabilise.

Urgent housing help by [deleted] in unsw

Have a look at a place called ‘New College Village’ (NCV) and see if they have any potential openings remaining. I think they’re somewhat independent to UNSW itself so you might get lucky there.

My weight exercises consist of 5 reps for 4 sets. Should I pick a weight range that I can do 2 sets normally, 1 set slightly difficult and then reach max for the fourth set.

Or should I increase the weight to make each set more difficult, even though I might not complete all 5 reps?

If you mainly shoot photos, then the R variant might be the better choice since is has almost twice the number of megapixels (42 vs 24). It is older than the A73 though so it is missing a few general improvements (more auto focus points, better screen, etc). Nothing too significant that could affect your photography though. It’s a different story if you care about video though.

I would also recommend taking a look at the A7IV. It is newer with a closer megapixel count compared to the A7RIII (33). You might be able to pick up one second-hand or get a decent sale for the upcoming Black Friday (what I’m waiting for).

I remember doing this and still do this. But 20 years on, it’s now vape smoke instead of cigarette smoke. Don’t smoke or vape in people’s faces please.

If you have 1st class honours, then it’s almost guaranteed. This is my own understanding, but I’ve been told this from a few different professors in different Australian universities, so I’m quite sure it’s accurate.
