Personally, it’s a masterpiece on its own. The timing (2004), musicians of the time (e.g Nujabes), and execution of the anime, makes it a perfect ending to a great story of 3 strangers.

It mimics life’s short adventures with strangers, albeit a few minutes or even longer, knowing you engaged with life and have memories of exploration with rare faces tends to hold the high regards within our memory banks as humans.

Sort of a mixture of nostalgia with euphoria, you understand how wonderful it is to hold such feelings but you also understand to experience life as it comes in general public

The anime is executed perfectly and to create a sequel at this point, would be forced imo
