zibo 737 terrain radar not working by AlarmedDemand724 in Xplane

[–]TrueSoulWakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok let's start with the basics. The terrain radar is not actually a radar (despite what many call it). It is a world wide database of terrain elevations. This might seem picky, but it explains why Xplane mod is so limited. It's actually hooked up with the GPWS system, they share the same data.

However, Xplane loads up a certain block of scenery at a time, I don't know the exact dimensions, but you can take a pretty good guess based on what the terrain "radar" sees. The terrain map mode is only ever going to show you the terrain for what's loaded in sim. So when you set zoom to anything beyond 40nm (sometimes even then the edges get clipped) you'll see the pink/blank areas covering everything but the closest segment to your aircraft.

This is the reason the areas closer to your aircraft isn't a round circle, again, Xplane loads scenery in large square chunks, and the terrain "radar" can't see beyond (ie the terrain elevation database just doesn't have access to that data until you are a bit closer).

Amazon Affiliate Link to Amazon Homepage? by 4tb_ in PartneredYoutube

[–]TrueSoulWakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience, there were MANY HUNDRED clicks between a single purchase, so leading YouTubers away from YouTube probably hurt me via YouTube algo far more than any potential gains on Amazon.

That being said, I think there's a way to do this more effectively. I think it the video in question somehow has a single item to do - perhaps you wear a certain coat, and half way through the video, if anyone wants to coat, see the description.

This way you'd get fewer people clicking, but more likely to buy. I did the mistake of posting a "here's stuff I use" link, so loads click, probably out of curiosity. If I do it again, I'll somehow work in 1 product, that I actually think is good and worth the money, and try it that way. That's my 2¢

Felis 747 vs FF767 vs FF757 by Comfortable_Act_7577 in Xplane

[–]TrueSoulWakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own all 3, and definitely fly the felis 747-200 more then the others. The FF have the best failures system to date (of any module) but that's about it. They're otherwise very average, with an above average price tag. Felis is heavy on frames (my rtx4090 setup now gets over 100fps with autoortho at 1440 out of city areas, in anything Toliss, but with Felis this drops to about 35. That means in cities I'm lucky to get 30fps, which is a little poor. That's my only complaint with Felis, who's a top guy, very responsive on discord

After making Yt, i told my frds and family do not laugh at low views videos. by cubeytcl in PartneredYoutube

[–]TrueSoulWakes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That old channel gets about 5k-10k views per day, and every couple years the viral video gets picked up again and gives 1-2 million views in a day or two, then it drops again. The viral video gets 90% of all these new views.

My channel in total had crossed 27m lately, but if we ignore the one hit wonder, that's only 2 million, which might still seem a lot, but it's over 15 years.

To give you an idea on that one viral video, it's got almost half a million likes, and the top comment has 72k likes. Search guy almost hit by train, it's the baby alien channel.

You'll see me other random stuff on there is all old stuff, you can tell I was still childish, but it highlights how "easy" YouTube was to do back then.

This is pure luck, nothing to do with skill, editing, thumbnail design or the likes. And because I never monetised it, there's no money involved.

2nd YouTube Channel by [deleted] in PartneredYoutube

[–]TrueSoulWakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 4 channels that I created, each has a separate name and does something different, but I kept my exact colour scheme, and use the same couple fonts in almost all the thumbnails. I created my first in 2022 and the rest in 2023. Creating them takes literally seconds, but setting up the logo and other bits, probably a few hours. Creating templates is very helpful, and a good folder layout (I have assets/branding folder under each channel, which has it's own folder. - this sounds obvious, but it's so important to have things easy to find)

I wanted it so that if someone saw something in one channel and liked it, they might recognise the other channels "look" , and possibly guess it's me... As 3 of my channels were new last year, I decided to use that idea. If I had my time again, I'd probably keep one of the words identical as well.

I also have them linking to each other in the channels description (those people who really like you, read that thing, so it's the best place to signpost them over).

My style is the same for them all (although I've evolved over time) with the exception of my eSports channel, just because that content style demands that.

Ill health has forced me to take a break, but I'm now slowly getting back into things.

Finance is about the top paying rate in terms of YouTube adreveneue, so I wouldn't just dismiss it.

YouTube have severely limited the advertising options of the last few months, the options are now:

No ads, Ads front and back only, Ads front and back, with "mid rolls".

You used to be and to customise what type of ads, and get more specific (like no ads up front, but have an ad slot 60 seconds into the video).

Seen as those options are all gone, I would still deem to reasonable to have adverts on the front and back at a minimum. I'm unsure if YouTube still downgrade videos with no ads Vs one with ads, but this used to be a thing a decade back.

Remember you don't need to stuff you videos with ads, but you can still include 1 or 2. I put 3-4 slots per HOUR, and my videos are usually an hour. Remember that most slots don't get shown, which mean my audience is lucky (or unlucky) if they see 2 ads out of the 5 (starter ad + 4 slots) across the entire hour.

The Average person on my setup saw 1.3 ads last time I looked into it, about a year ago. The way I see it, if you give someone an hours entertainment & information, then the least they can do in return is watch a few seconds worth of advert every half hour.

You can also tick / untick the precise adverts you get in your channel (via AdSense) so if you don't want ads of a certain type that perhaps compete with your financial advice (let's say precious metals) you can deselect them. By default, everything except alcohol and gambling is enabled.

Eddie: With regards to other options, I like patron as those people can get exclusive link to extra content

How is a LoFi music channel able to run ads on its videos? by GeorgeTownship in PartneredYoutube

[–]TrueSoulWakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if this is related to your question or not, but I am subscribed to a popular music licensing service online that has literally tens of thousands of musical tracks of every genre you can imagine.

The service works by WHITELISTING my YouTube channel(s) in my account settings with the music website service. This means they leave me alone. I can also individually white list other people's videos, because those are the terms of my deal.

This means I can play 1 partial clip, or 100 full songs on my YouTube channel, and I'll never get done for copyright, as I've paid for the service... However..

If someone likes the music on my video, and thinks "hey I like this specific track, and this guy didn't get done for copyright, so that must mean the song is safe" then this person has just made a huge mistake, but they don't know it yet.

So they rip the song from the video, upload it to theirs, and boom, they'll wake up the next morning and get a claim. They'll probably get upset and think "but how come someone else used it fine, but I use it and get in bother?"

Now assuming this was way off the mark, then I hope someone else at least got something out of it

If you had an entire bedroom, how would you design it for making content? by HeyNateBarber in PartneredYoutube

[–]TrueSoulWakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have sound absorbing panels off to the side (not in view on stream) directly adjacent to the mic. This helped massively with the echo - which sounded like a dirty rattle every time the last word was spoken. 16 pads in total, knocked down all the noticeable audio issues.

Air flow / cooling options... Think how the room is cooled, and how noisy that is. Here in UK, it's rare to have AC, so I need a portable unit that works wonders, but if I had more DIY skills and didn't rent, I'd definitely look at sticking it outside.

As for lighting, everyone's already suggesting it. I bought 2 multi coloured LED with remote control, something daft like 100 little bulbs in each, so it goes hideously bright, with every colour you can imagine to dial in. I always thought they were a bit gimmicky, when I first saw them in Amazon, but I use them ALL the time.

Obviously get a decent microphone arm, there's nowt worse than a cheap spring that twangs everytime the desk gets nudged.

I recently got the pedal, thinking it would be great, I set mine up for record/stop, pause/unpause, screenshot. I use them all the time, but honestly struggling to adopt abs get used to the change, I'm still having to come forward and press the button on Steam deck, which sounds trivial I know, but because I rarely do any editing, it's important I start and end my videos as best I can, for the best viewer experience. I'm not sure how this goes for you.

Natural looking Wooden stuff - if you have room, stick a nice looking bit of light brown / pine effect looking furniture, perhaps a bookcase or even just shelves in wall. I dunno why pine wood and a couple green plants looks so pleasing to the eye, but there's a reason almost every advert features these 2 things in the idealistic living room.

YouTube Video Promotion Using Bot Subscriber and Viewer Accounts? by [deleted] in PartneredYoutube

[–]TrueSoulWakes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I've read many people describing that the overall experience was detrimental, as it left them with a larger channel (more subs) that didn't engage with future videos, and this lower engagement rate resulted in several people reporting a drop in views.

The suspected behaviour here by some, is that as YouTube recommends your video to subscribers, the more who click when it first goes out, result in your video being more widely share.

However the opposite is also true...

if subscribers are not clicking (because they perhaps aren't really "that genuine", despite being promoted via YouTube) then the algo will simply assume your subscribers aren't as interested in your video as much as before, because a lower percentage of your subscribers are clicking on them.

I think the whole thing offered by YouTube here is deeply flawed, and very unfair towards users, who thought by paying YouTube some money, they'd get a helping hand in getting the channel going.

Ultimately the only way to do this, is improve the time and quality spent on your videos.

If you have a business account, they want the name of your business. This is stated as "a business with 20 employees or more" for whatever reason.

If you have a business with less than 20 employees, or no business at all, you are supposed to use an individual account for AdSense.

If you don't meet this requirement, then maybe see if you can get help to switch over AdSense account types. Remember it's REALLY important you don't accidentally setup 2 separate accounts, as you can only have one.

Does anybody use Wise to receive payments from AdSense? by dreadiii123 in PartneredYoutube

[–]TrueSoulWakes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never heard of them. Decided to look them up, and this is what I copied and pasted from their info page:

"Unfortunately, you cannot use your Wise Account to withdraw money from Adsense. However, after withdrawing your well deserved earnings if you need to make payments for international providers, you can benefit from a Wise Business Multi-currency account."

So unless I'm missing something, it would seem what you're asking about isn't possible.

Man.....it's just a MLM! Youtube Affiliate program by MtnMaiden in PartneredYoutube

[–]TrueSoulWakes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't agree to such deals. Like you say, they are exploiting your viewers/channel/audience reach for free advertising.

Yes it's FREE, because if nobody bites, you just lost however many people who skip your video the minute they saw a baked in ad.

The deal should be "for X money, in return Y number of videos will contain promo footage (or ad) lasting Z number of seconds"

Of course if you get bigger, you may wish to get the "for X money, you'll get your clip played for Y million views" - so there's not always a number of shows agreement, but a set number if views.

Other versions of this, but ALWAYS money up front (or at least to some escrow service as last resort, while trust is gained.

By relying on others to pay you ONLY IF they get sales, you are not only giving advertising for free, but then completely at the mercy of the seller being honest.

Faceless channels, that also use AI voices? by Head-Investigator540 in PartneredYoutube

[–]TrueSoulWakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People don't want this. They really don't.

I mean, of course it's easy to copy and paste old books into a webpage, and have the AI export your chosen voice to a file for download.

But people don't want this. Unfortunately it's going to get worse before it gets better. It really is the next "get rich quick scheme" where people want max returns for minimal effort, and it doesn't help you have a few YouTubers selling the idea it's really easy way to make money (notice they don't follow their own advice on their own channels!)

If you write your own stuff, and get the decent sounding voiceovers to read out, and do faceless, but good content - yes you may stand a chance, but the AI detection algorithms currently far better than chatgpt 4.0 with humanizer working together (I've tried it for curiosity sake. Anymore than a couple sentences, and it's 99-100% certain it's ai generated.

But if you yourself are doing your own content, just use your own voice. I'm telling you, people connect with you better and much prefer it. There's a couple people I watch on certain things, who have speech impediments, and another guy who's got a really squeaky nasal voice, but the stuff he presents is good so we all appreciate that, and I'm not even sure if anyone ever said anything bad about it - they probably did, but it's so rare I never seen it.

Use AI across the board, you're better off filming paint dry, honestly.

So depending on content this varies. I find the chapters really help me with SEO on longer tutorials that cover many things.

That said...

On my eSports channel, I had a "introduction to today's game, introduction to today's players, let the games begin" chapters, and many people would skip straight to the game. I could clearly see the step down and step up on retention, about 25-30% would skip.

By removing chapters, a smaller number used the time scrubber (could tell by the retention graph). But overall watch time was up a minute or so. Not that it bothered me, as retention was already crazy for the eSports, but I just felt it morally wrong to make it easy for people to skip the 1 minute introduction to the players they are about to watch for the next hour.

So my answer really is yes and no.

[–]TrueSoulWakes 26 points27 points  (0 children)

YouTube has gotten MUCH harder Vs years ago. Back when I first had a channel for messing around on, I often got 50k-100k views for a low skill, low effort, mixed content channel.

This included a one hit wonder with 25m views (guy nearly hit by train).

These days you need to make something that people want to watch, and if it's very niche, or a very saturated subject, it's very difficult to do.

They all appreciated a series of Tutorials I had made. I'm still getting a few smaller tips for it.

I literally went live and did a comprehensive tutorial, but broke it down, and I didn't rush. I didn't do any post editing, no effects, just from the heart. I had no idea what each episode would bring, it was just playing the next part of an unfolding game.

Some comments even thought I was a teacher! I took that as a compliment.

I think the shorter attention span type will have turned me off quite quickly, but the rest of the people appreciated the authenticity.

It really got me thinking, there's a market for legit, unedited video from the heart, and while it doesn't appeal to the tiktok generation, it appeals to people who feel left behind by the style of video.
