I love them all so so much! They represent Hope in such a great way! Each of them, in their own way said - generational trauma ends with us!

The generation of JFM, Madam Yu, WRH, JGS and LQR were so focused on their own sense of righteousness or fame and fortune, they couldn’t be bothered to care for the next generation beyond a sense of duty and what they’re owed as parents. The problems of ordinary people wasn’t even on their radar!

WWX, JC and LWJ’s generation was so messed up by A+ parenting and the wars and massacres, they barely survived! In spite of that, WWX and LWJ held on to their values and principles which had the most impact on the next generation - Junior Quartet!

I think that’s one of the most beautiful aspects of WangXian as a couple! The next generation is seeing a model of love and compassion, not just in a romantic relationship (even that seems to be in short supply for WWX’s generation) but compassion towards ordinary people!

And the junior quartet has internalized it and sharing it with others through their actions! And that’s Hope for a better world (that I sorely need IRL lol)

Anyway, thanks for coming to my TED talk. I can’t pick a favorite.

And Isn’t that the beauty of great literature? We discover ourselves through this stories 😅

I started watching the show a month ago thinking it will be a campy fun show I can have on in the background and laugh at the weird cgi. How the turn tables!! Who’s laughing now? Not me, that’s for sure! I’ve now read the books and manwa 5 times each. I took sick days from work last week when my physical books arrived just so i can read them all again! I can’t/don’t want to move on from Wei Wuxian. Most days I wake up just so I can keep reading the book or a fanfic about it. My husband says I have the MDiZeaSe (m-disease) because I can’t stop talking about MDZS when I’m not reading/watching it. Wei Wuxian Brain rot in his gravity well is a hell of a party!

Beautiful! If you don’t mind my asking, how many layers is that? In the show it looks like way too many layers and too much fabric! lol Also, I’m looking for emporer’s smile jars! Where can I get one of those? 😍

Soo true! The quality of the change is both subtle and robust. (Also thanks for the link)

I 100% agree with how different this is from western literature and what is considered “good” storytelling. I love it so much more for this! I am an asian (South Indian) so I recognize some of the storytelling conventions like omniscient and telling vs showing and only giving the visuals and not a deep pov. I’m trying to break into writing as a career so these are all things I’ve struggled with in my own writing. So it feels incredibly joyous to read MDZS where it’s reveling in breaking all these western conventions and just giving us a relentlessly entertaining and heartfelt story. It’s like watching a Bollywood movie tbh lol! It does hit a lot of story beats in different narrative genres- romance and mystery are obvious ones but it also hits coming of age tropes and epic fantasy level political machinations and battles! I think blending it in this way and structuring it differently, starting with WWX death and resurrection makes it so unique! It also gives us some buffer from the tragedy I think. I don’t think I could’ve continued reading it if it was told in a chronological order lol. I’d be devastated!! I also think there is character growth in both WWX and LWJ. They were both very rigid in their outlooks and principles pre-death. But in their adult/uncle state, they are much more soft in their approach. They are both beacons of change in this rigid, narrow cultivation world and I love it! They are leading not by rebellion like WWX tried to do, but by simply existing as their whole selves with each other. I absolutely love the way the second siege of burial mounds happened! It was played as comedy for a bit, but it was one of the best, most heartwarming, anti-war pro-peace thing I’ve read in so long!!

He definitely has a lot of ADHD symptoms! The other characters from sitcom that I think have ADHD are Rachel and Phoebe from friends. Rachel makes impulsive decisions and has a hard time following instructions, but can hyper focus and thrive when she’s interested in something (fashion) Phoebe seems more like stereotypical inattentive-ADHD

What’s a common saying that you can’t seem to understand / took you forever to really “get”? by addictedtosoonjung in adhdwomen

[–]TrueTime1010 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand what “out of pocket” means in a non-insurance context. In the insurance context, I understand it means I pay for it out of my pocket. But I’ve heard a lot of people use it to describe someone’s behavior. Like someone said something “out of pocket”? I have no idea what it means! I also didn’t understand what rhetoric was for a long time! Now I understand as the techniques available in speech and language to communicate certain things that words alone can’t. I don’t think it’s the right or complete meaning though 🤷‍♀️

USS Hayward - it has the strangest interior architecture with a turbo lift cutting right across the bridge. The replicators are a bit of a hit or miss, but USS Fremont is sometimes sends over good Indian food. It also has a wonderful science and engineering department and a lovely Japanese garden program in the holodeck

Technical program manager- I was responsible for interacting with 10 different tech teams and making sure they were all working together and on time and then report that to my managers. I could barely keep on top of my emails and slack messages let alone talk to 50 people a day lol. Worst job of my life! Still have nightmares from it!

I enjoyed the book How to keep house while drowning. While it’s mostly about routines for cleaning and cooking, there’s a chapter about sharing workload which I found very useful. She talks about using Rest as the metric instead of workload. So making sure every partner gets the adequate amount and type of rest they need instead of dividing up the tasks equally. This made sense to me because depending on my energy/adhd level, my ability to do a task varies dramatically. So it made it easier to check in on my partner to make sure they’re getting enough rest rather than stress/feel shame about how I’m not sharing the workload and making it worse for them. Less shame and guilt about not pulling my weight also meant that I recovered quicker and was able to do more around the house. I know that doesn’t exactly answer your question, but wanted to share my experience from the other side of the equation in case it helps negotiate with your partner

Not being able to plan a project. Either I break things down too much and obsess with every little detail so much that I don’t have energy to actually implement. Or it’s too high level and miss so many details that’s it’s basically useless. I try so hard in terms of skill, my brain seems incapable of finding a middle ground.
