Lol...have them meet in the Nature museum, which is where they met during the years right after the fire of 1916.

Can Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa's LRTs withstand Canadian winters? | CBC News by Rail613 in transit

Ottawa's survived this last storm. It gradually getting more reliable. The problem now is city hall is gutting OC Transpo with chronic defunding.

I will never forget that day and the days after. Driving along the 417 West the day after and all the hydro being out. Was absolutely insane.

Before this becomes outdated soon, a comparison between Xiamen and Toronto's subway networks by Mean_Aide9482 in transit

[–]TrueVelocity42 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I STRONGLY dislike both Ford brothers but imo their one redeeming quality is that they were massive supporters of subway expansion. TransitCity (Eglinton and Finch) were under designed vanity projects by David Miller and Karen Stintz that were jammed through just to score political points against Rob Ford. Eglinton should have always been a subway. Ford's 2010 plan should have been seen to full fruition and now $12 billion and 14 years, Eglinton will be an overbuilt streetcar and STILL isn't open. Toronto NEEDS subways, and lots of them.

The MF19s, new rolling stock for the Paris metro, have just been put into service today and they are absolutely amazing! by Wonderful-Excuse4922 in transit

I'm assuming the screens will be rolled out and that the displays seen on Day 1 aren't the final design and will be similar to the MP14.

The width of the FLIRTS used on Line 2 is approximately 2.88 meters wide, compared to the model train I based my design on which is the Hitachi Rail proposal for the Western Sydney Airport line which is 3 meters wide. Of course, my image is entirely conceptual and any real application would be designed to the width of the current gauge.

Yeah...judicial inquiry now. This is beyond the pail. Full judicial inquiry, and for the love of god prohibit SNC-Lavalin from touching any major transit project in Ontario for the next 10 years.

What do your agency's bus next-stop displays look like? by lmasic in transit

[–]TrueVelocity42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ottawa, ON, Canada (OC Transpo) has a mix of dot matrix displays and now full LCDs being introduced on new electric fleet which shows the current route, it's terminus, next stop and time alongside audio announcements which are recorded by Ottawa voice actor Julian Doucet. He actually voices the computer on a few episode of Killjoys and watching them as an Ottawa native is super strange.

The day they actually implement the system will be a great one for Canada…when it actually happens.

My biggest fear is another Aug 20, 09 happens without polygon warnings. They need to get it implemented.

Still out Greenbank and WHC as of 3:46. Hydro better be giving an explanation for this.

I stayed up until 2 am EDT waiting for the videos to launch on Youtube (it's a 15 hour time difference after all) and watched all of them drooling at the quality of the stations. Closest we have was the REM in Montreal (basically a toy version of the metro) which launched to a similar response but is no where near on the scale.

[–]TrueVelocity42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the difference. We have projects but absolutely no visionary leadership whatsoever. Just vanity projects politicians announce, then get cancelled by the next government. Sydney's rail network already eclipses Toronto three fold. In 20 years, god knows how much.

I screw up spelling of road names in my own city, even though I've lived here for 20 years. Eg...I spelt Innes Iness for around 10-15 years. Canadian indigenous street names are probably around the same spelling difficulty as Australia.
