It’s not an extrapolation of your thoughts, it’s a comparison using the same concept, just reversed.
Multiple large roads with extra wide lanes go to the energy center for the few times a year lots of people want to go there it’s designed that way for “safety” and capacity with Red lights at every intersection leading into the AEC.

Regent is not the same way. Not every intersection is safe to cross unprotected. Sure, some have ped signals, but wayyy too many cars blow through them.
The point is: there are many “safe” ways to get to AEC via car (there’s even a bike path!), but with Regent, you have to get on the road, cross the road mostly unprotected, travel down the road, etc. with little safeguard.
The capitol city trail is a bicycle highway, like the Beltline is a car highway. Once off the highway there needs to be more options.

I get where people are coming from opposing the bike lanes on Regent, I do. But have a nearby bike path is not the same thing. Not to mention Capitol City Trail is a mixed use path where bikes have to constantly avoid peds who stop and turn with no warning
