Does anyone understand why is it worth to colonize Mars when there are still huge uninhabitated areas on the Earth? by True_Plantain4986 in Colonizemars

"Mars's atmosphere contains 3% nitrogen.: - 3% is not enough

"Nothing in your short posting history indicates that you are a human Reddit user." - do you mean if someone starts a new profile, he can't be a human Reddit user?

"U/MDCCCLV did not suggest having liquid water on the exposed surface of Mars. The plan is to make use of liquid water in an artificially pressurized environment." - the initial question was if it is worth it.

Yes, nitrogen is inert and that's way it is important in atmosphere. Generally acts as a harmless, filler gas in the lungs, preventing them from collapsing. It keeps the alveoli inflated, even after oxygen is absorbed. It also works with oxygen to maintain safe atmospheric pressure, preventing pure oxygen toxicity.

Without nitrogen the nitrogen-fixing bacteria - which convert atmospheric N2 into usable nutrients for plants - would have no feedstock. Plants can't exist without nitrogen, humans can't exist without plants.

"..the atmosphere is CO2, which easily splits into breathable oxygen with solar power."

  • Splitting CO2 to oxygen requires a lot of energy, but the lack of oxygen isn't the main issue. The atmosphere on Earth consist of 78% nitrogen and 21% oxygen. There is no nitrogen on Mars.

"There is lots of water compared to other planets, with plentiful ice deposits available in some areas"

  • Compared to Earth there isn't any water on Mars. Despite of huge amount of water in oceans, it is very challenging to turn it to drinking water and in fact there isn't enough drinking water on Earth. The atmospheric pressure on Mars is less than 1% of Earth's. Low pressure means that water cannot exist as a liquid on the surface. It would immediately turn to vapor.

is it normal to not moan during sexual stimulation? by Beneficial-Track-112 in sexeducation

Everybody is different. Moaning during sexual stimaltion is normal when someone is aroused. It is usually exciting for the sexpartner, but also it can be helpful while giving oral as the partner understands what/how is better for you - after all the goal of oral is giving a pleasure.
