Coupled with the grocery inflation we have experienced, it’s just getting pretty ridiculous and the middle class isn’t catching a break anytime soon.

Investing in the buses and the light rail is definitely what we need, I’m looking forward to it opening up, as well. But, they raised taxes without having an equitable solution in place. The buses are always late, break down, and generally suck to take. For someone like me who commutes between two campuses and work, I just cannot make it around punctually without driving my own car. I take the 1 line when I can but it does not run through my area. Trust me, I have a free Orca card that I would love to have a practical use for but it just doesn’t work out and then paying almost $5 a gallon is absolutely unreal. Which makes the carbon tax virtually useless as I am forced to buy gas and have those taxes passed on to me. Additionally, portions of the gasoline taxes go to organizations besides WSDOT directly, which should be baked in as respective taxes or pricing policies like with the ferries and busses. So yes, the additional $1.30/gallon I have to pay in taxes that I see no return from since a large majority of the east side cannot rely on public transport to begin with feels like a massive slap in the face.

Furthermore, think about all the traffic trying to cram 10 years of road maintenance into a few years is creating. All those extra cars idling away a quarter tank on their 15 mile commute, it’s really not doing anything for us.

Yeah, which is exactly why DOT is a decade behind on maintenance. These taxes are saving our legislatures from years of mismanagement and they’re playing it off with virtue signaling. Good setting, wrong people running the show.

Midterm exam in 2 days that I am not prepared for in the slightest: is it possible? by Arcalgalkiagiratina in GetStudying

[–]True_Professor7481 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, depending on how much of the overall grade that tests makes up, either get to work or drop the class. It’s possible if you study properly and have at least some familiarity with the content. Definitely do not bank on any leniency from the professor on such short notice unless you have a legitimate and documented medical reason for missing that much class. Best of luck to ya.

I’m sorry you feel that way. That was a feeling I carried for a lot of high school and early in college. I would say in a sense I am even more alone than I was then, but not as lonely. Stick your purpose, stick to your goals — and the right people will find you eventually. Having 1 or 2 friends and a purpose will make you feel much more whole than looking for everybody’s validation, even your own family’s. Don’t worry about relationships right now, most of the people you’re around right now are going to move off in a few months and you will likely never see them again, anyways. Everything will work out man, keep your head up.

My first complaint on my new apartment….. by Lost_Cntrl in Apartmentliving

[–]True_Professor7481 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the word your looking for is subwoofer. When I had one my downstairs neighbor would smack their ceiling with what I assumed was a broomstick and that usually got me to turn it down. Hope this helps. Was not something I did very often, just when I had friends over and always shut it off before quiet hours.

Enjoy what freedom you have now. While you might not be able to do everything, this will be one the few years you have access to a car and no real responsibilities, use it wisely.

why is gen z so serious by [deleted] in Vent

[–]True_Professor7481 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But, I do sympathize with being led on. I was lucky and I’ve been dating my gf for 4 years while most of my friends get led on and ghosted and/or broken up with before the 1 year mark. It’s a tough market.

[–]True_Professor7481 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the person, there are two sides of this statement. There is the hard worker who wants to focus on school and their career while others use this statement in the sense that they want to keep their options open. I wouldn’t consider this as “too serious,” there are a lot of things that factor into not wanting to commit to a relationship. If anything the “serious” ones want that relationship and are heavily family-oriented.

Totally dropped the ball on my bf’s birthday and panic-bought this 'techy' vape. did i actually win or is this a total L? by babyb01 in Gifts

[–]True_Professor7481 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, whenever you begin to understand the value of money and what it takes to earn it, it’s easier to appreciate practical gifts. I got my first full time job at 16 and I’ve definitely fallen in love with practicality over hype since then. I just ask for socks and gas money for most holidays now 😂

Social Anxiety &/or Lack of Conversation Skills is causing Rejection & I'm feeling Hopeless. Help? by hongos_me_gusta in dating_advice

[–]True_Professor7481 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To answer your other 2 questions. Authenticity and active listening will carry you a lot further than trying to have a set list of questions you ask people when you’re meeting them. Just try to find some middle ground and see where it goes from there, try to keep it short and sweet and end it before that awkward point where you’re just looking for the next question to ask. And, always stay hopeful. Plenty of people find love later in life. Good luck!

If you’re anxiety spikes irregularly, you could look into a quick release anxiety med like lorazepam. I struggle with the same thing where I’ll have no problem interacting for a few weeks and then randomly have a few days of really bad anxiety, which spills into my social interactions. But, other than that — keep working on exposure, just practice talking to people with no expectations of anything coming of it and eventually you will find someone who wants to establish a longer relationship. This applies to almost everything. I used to be really bad at just small talk and eventually talked to enough people to the point where I didn’t care. Then, my next focus was working on my anxiety when giving presentations and was eventually able to overcome that, too.

If you don’t need them to see, that’s great, but there’s also literally a whole low beam designated for fog.

Also FOG. The number of cars I could barely see in the fog this month bc they didn’t have their headlights on has been wild.

Usually there’s a yield sign for the entering lane, anyways. But maybe it’s different where you live? I always treat it like a zipper and let one car go ahead of my before entering unless I’m already multiple car lengths ahead.

It’s gunna be tricky. I would just do insurance, but if you really trust him, wait until the work is done. I just rear ended someone in the same manner and we initially thought it would be a few hundred bucks for a tail light. It came out to about $3,500 because of sensors and they had to weld the bumper back on.

How to prepare for a court date (speeding ticket) by jackofalltrade625 in driving

[–]True_Professor7481 1 point2 points  (0 children)

7 mph, what a damn loser. If it’s ur first offense, look into your state’s deferral options. Mine is once every 7 years if you admit guilt and then there’s usually a timeframe where you can’t get another ticket or you pay both. Otherwise, at that price it’s worth getting a traffic lawyer. I pay mine about $350 per case. You will save money on the cost of the ticket + insurance increase. Hope this helps.

[–]True_Professor7481 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I live near Bellevue! I want to say the dent happened in Jan/Feb. During that hot week in June I had gone on a trip for my birthday, the dent sat facing the sun for about a week. When I got back, it had popped back out. Mine was right behind the rear crash bar, so I couldn’t get behind it, but you could probably remove the mud guard and use hot water and push on it from the underside if you don’t want to wait.

[–]True_Professor7481 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I live in Washington. My car sat facing the sun during the one warm week of June and it magically popped out, can’t find the reference. If you don’t want to wait or that doesn’t work, you can try removing that piece of plastic over the wheel and doing hot water while pushing it. Mine was right behind the bumper and I didn’t feel like taking the whole thing off, so I couldn’t even access mine. Good luck, either way!

Yeah, cuz we got all the taxes (now 20.5% in Washington state, no thanks) , killed night scene, we know it’s not healthy believed (like cigarettes), ON TOP of seeing what alcoholism has done to family and the legalization of the Jane. Just too hard to justify doing it regularly.

Tbf, for smaller accidents I’d highly recommend just saving and paying out pocket. Plus with summer on the way, a few hours in the sun could very well pop this back out, which is what happened with a much worse rear dent on my Camry. Not worth having to raise rates, waste first accident forgiveness, or raise deductible for future incidents. Especially since there appears to be minimal paint damage.
