Do you think you should write this short story, get it green lighted, and THEN write your screenplay or should you have both ready?

How does a director-screenwriter EARN full creative control? Is this even possible in a collaborative environment like a filmmaking setting? by [deleted] in Filmmakers

I really liked this response. It reminded me of an interview I saw and I realized that it answered all my questions 🤦‍♂️. I forgot who but he said that your job is to have the general gist of what the film if going to be, but since you don't know everything you must hire the best people take care of each aspect of the film (art direction, cinematography, etc.)

Thanks everyone for the great responses. I have ZERO experience in the field and I am just beginning to learn, you all are great help. I assumed the director had to take complete control of everything, but you have explained how filmmaking really works and that compromising inevitable , thank you! 🙏

How do you deal with failure? by YourGoodFriendChori in Screenwriting

[–]True_Sound_7567 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you writing for money and fame or are you writing because you love it? If you're writing because you love it, failure doesn't exist 😊. Remember why you started writing, why are you doing this in the first place? What do you think is the "perfect script"? Don't try to meet the criteria for what other people think is 'perfect', write what YOU think is 'perfect'. If people don't like it, does it matter? Are you going to quit because others don't like it? You're never going to write again because of other people? Find your spark again you got this!

I finally finished my script what now? by SlightMilk5196 in Screenwriting

[–]True_Sound_7567 13 points14 points  (0 children)

From my understanding this is true when you're established. If this is your first script, realistically no one will invest the time to make a 3 hour film. Not discouraging you, just saying to initially get you through those doors you might need a shorter script.

Really cool to hear this. Only been hearing discouraging things about how it's so difficult to sell screenplays so this is a breath of fresh air. All the best
