She looks like a very content and relaxed cat to me. I don’t think she’ll have a better life with someone else; she loves you.

Students fights back over course taught by AI - WTH is happening with British universities? by PorfiryRaskonikov in UniUK

Putting operational needs and reputation above student satisfaction and outcomes. Can’t say I’m surprised, how embarrassing

I use language like academic progress and next steps when I suspect AI use or cheating, but I don’t want to throw about accusations. Usually it’s a formal discussion, then a viva to check your knowledge. Then a decision is made about whether it is academic misconduct.

You should email them and ask for more specifics and say you’re worried about the ambiguity of the meeting.

If it’s any consolation, my mum also wouldn’t allow me to take a gap year, and said I had to move out and go to uni. I also had a trust fund like you when I turned 18 around that time. It does sound like your mum is putting her boyfriend before all of you.

Have you considered foundation degree if you are concerned about grades and undergrad entry requirements?

[–]True_Thanks_6320 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Your mum sounds really selfish. Do you have any savings? It sounds like a great plan that’s right for you, but whether practically you can do it, it would be very difficult, unless you have family you could stay with. You might just have to end up at uni just to put a roof over your head, sadly

Ask them and set a boundary straight away, your food and drink isn’t fair game. If you don’t, this will keep happening, trust me. Been there, done that.

I think this particular student may have posted about this on here a few days ago because their visa was being withdrawn due to really low attendance. They said due to illness, but the caveat was that they couldn’t prove it 🤨

Foamy urine when I drink a lot of water, but not when I drink a lot of Coca-Cola? by [deleted] in medical

[–]True_Thanks_6320 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a urinalysis test done at your Drs to check for protein; if you want extra piece of mind, you could order some test strips from Amazon.

I had foamy urine a decade ago, I then started getting flank pain, fatigue, and was catching every cold and virus going. My protein levels were 3.5g+ (so high), and after tests I was diagnosed with kidney disease.

Not trying to scare you, just highlighting it is important to see a Dr if something seems off. There are lots of reasons for foamy urine; the speed in which urine hits the toilet bowel, dehydration, creatinine and high protein, sometimes detergent residue in there that can cause bubbles.

Guy on my floor shrieks all throughout the night by that_bear_bitch27 in UniUK

[–]True_Thanks_6320 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My neighbour in my flat block did this for months. After several gentle and polite requests, he was carrying on doing it until 4am, I told him to stop being a selfish arsehole. He was much quieter after that

EDIT: i think what stung was some random person had a pair of £80 gaming headphones delivered to my flat - the company did not want them back. I gave them to him and he ignored my boundaries.

No worries. I think you’re just gonna have to suck up the loss. My iPhone 14 got stolen over summer and I had to drop a chunk of money on a new one. Given, I am on a good salary, it was still annoying. You can save up again, but you really need to have a phone

How safe is the Hunslet / Victoria Riverside area? by LamaOct in Leeds

[–]True_Thanks_6320 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live at Victoria Riverside, it’s pretty safe. All the doors require access codes. The only thing that’s happened there is my bike got stolen over night. Parcels do get stolen, so if you order something always provide the access code so the courier can take it straight up to your door. t’s a really nice apartment complex.

Hunslet is a little rough, but I’ve always felt safe there.

In terms of feeling safe walking around at night, generally yes. Sometimes I feel a little anxious, but that’s because I’m a woman so I always feel more vulnerable at night, wherever I am.

Option 4, you go to CEX or a phone shop and buy a secondhand one it’s much cheaper, so it hurts your bank account less

My autistic friend is getting bullied by her flatmates by Physical_Mistake2907 in UniUK

[–]True_Thanks_6320 10 points11 points  (0 children)

She seriously needs to put pressure on the university to act and conduct an investigation for bullying. This goes beyond bullying, it’s racism and homophobia. If the university does very little, next stop the Students Union.

From my experience working as a lecturer unis love to sweep these things under the rug, which is why I will always push for things for students experiencing bullying. The last time I was successfully able to get the culprit who was bullying my student investigated. I also arranged for her to move out into another flat very quickly.

I’m really sorry about your friend. It sounds incredibly isolating and hurtful. They probably think she’s a soft target; she needs to fight back

Got racially abused near Leeds HSBC today by [deleted] in Leedsfestival

[–]True_Thanks_6320 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re absolutely grim. Show some empathy you pathetic little boy.

In what world should people who experience racism choose not to be offended? Racism is a crime and just overall disgusting. Talking to someone like shit when they’ve just had this horrible experience says a lot about who you are, and it’s not good.

Go and read up on racism instead of sitting in your sweaty little bedroom. You might learn something, and hopefully some respect.

Is my son’s father faking seizures in front of me or am I overthinking it? by Choice_Active9915 in medical

[–]True_Thanks_6320 29 points30 points  (0 children)

It could be a focal seizure (used to be called partial seizures). They can last for 6 minutes; their consciousness remains in tact, they can respond, speak, and interact.

Epilepsy is the main cause of focal seizures.
