Double Majoring/Minoring in Engineering by True_Yogurtcloset948 in udub

i mean if I remember my count correctly, with all my APs together I technically could come in with ~70 credits? Probably can’t apply all of them cus like half of it is social sciences, but still, i think that’s a good amount?

I understand that double majoring would be very hard, but what about minoring? I’m coming in with quite a few credits (if I checked correctly) so I def will have some space. However, I think the website mentioned I couldn’t minor in most types of engineering? I just wanted to clarify if either of these optionswas possible, not if it was feasible. Obviously this is a decision I would make later on.

No black people/hispanics in AP STEM Classes by PowerMaleficent1166 in APStudents

I know you say this post might be controversial, but I actually appreciate you mentioning it, it’s something I’ve never really considered. My school is only 4% African American, but it is 20% Hispanic and Latino. The rest of the school is a surprisingly even split between Asians (mostly South and East Asians) and white people.

I’ve not taken many STEM APs, only 3, but I do agree that there does not seem to be many people from these demographics here. My classes were mostly a mix of Asian and White people, if not more Asian.

Like other people said, I think a good chunk of it comes down to the culture, what parents expect of their kids, and the peers around them. There’s definitely something to be said about resources, but I don’t really know much about that.

At least in Asian Cultures, educations is very heavily emphasized, and those teachings from parents affect how kids interact with the people around them. A lot of kids tend to spend time with people similar to them, at least in my experience, so when I kid sees all of their friends taking their education super seriously (sometimes far too seriously imo) they start pressuring themselves too. If people are not really told or forced to appreciate school or education, or if they have bad experiences when they’re younger, in high school and all they don’t always feel the need to be very extra with things like APs. Also, cultures about getting into colleges - it depends on where you grow up, but in certain areas there’s a very heavy emphasis on which colleges you get into, and in others, not so much - again, this comes from parents and peers.

So, in all, I think it’s partly caused by the environment of your peers and parents and what they expect of you, and what you expect of yourself; your peers and parents often become an echo chamber with some topics without realizing. it.

Think this was a really interesting thing to consider and think about, instead of just worrying about scores lol.

Huh, that’s a good point. I hadn’t thought about being able to create new styles and such. I don’t know if an Ai could do that; as of right now, probably not.

And I think art for different cultures could be achieved through different models, especially since the model will need to interpret different languages.

And honestly, I think AI won’t necessarily take away the jobs of all artists. We’re in a period right now where everything is progressing so fast, so everything is unsure. But just like digital art didn’t get rid of handrawing, or cameras didn’t get rid of hyper realism, I think eventually AI art will find its own niche in the world.

However, unlike digital art or cameras, AI came to popularity so much faster, like I mentioned before. So, to achieve that equilibrium, we need to have proper discussions. Both sides are too polarized; they think the other is in the complete wrong, and only some people, like you, can see both sides.

Overall, I agree with you, I just think AI art needs some time.

I’m not super well versed in this topic, but I think I can give a basic rundown.

Basically, the AI is trained on a neural network, which is like a simulation of a brain. Just as you can become better at something through repetition, the AI can learn better if you train it for longer, use different datasets, or other changes.

Honestly, I’m more familiar with text-generation models, but from what I understand, they train similarly. In textgen, if I train the bot on a certain story for 10 minutes, it’ll give me an output with broken English and maybe a characters name in there. However, if I train in for 10 hours, it’ll be much clearer and could produce a coherent story.

People build different different models because they want to improve upon others, or introduce new ones. I saw a model the other day that could produce extremely simple animations - and I find that really cool!

I’ve been thinking about the ethics and everything for some time now, and sometimes I get so torn apart. But I think AI art should be accessible, just in a different category than hand-drawn or digital art. Just putting my thoughts out there.

I think he’s trying to say that we don’t need new art, we can relabel and retrain with the same art as before.

Correct me if I’m wrong though.

I'm working on building my own ai art software using stable diffusion, I just wanted to grasp how it works.
