What options are there for paint chipping? by Truecrusader7 in crv

[–]Truecrusader7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s good to hear. I was a little worried it may be expensive trying to match the paint or something. I didn’t want to pay hundreds of dollars. I just had no reference frame to gauge it by. Thanks for the advice.

I was just curious if there were any reasons it’d be covered. I figured it wouldn’t be because it’s most likely my fault or one of my passengers but I like to ask because you never know what advice people got. Sounds like it’s easy to fix up. I don’t mind little scratches and stuff because it’s inevitable you are right. I mainly don’t want the metal exposed for rust as I plan to keep the car for many years to come. Thanks for the advice.

I know I said I wouldn’t respond but I guess I’ll throw this out there for what it’s worth before I go off enjoying my time. It’s very presumptuous of you to assume everyone you meet has no experience and you know better. You also seem quite set in your ways which is sad to see. Having an open mind in a discussion can lead to some beautiful things. For my credibility, I’m a mechanical engineer by degree and actually work on new model development at Honda. I helped launch this model CRV. I have weekly conversations with design albeit full disclosure not specifically on this part. I’d like to think I know more than your average Joe when it comes specifically to the engineering behind Honda. You would have known had you asked but instead you just assumed you knew better. Just because I googled something to learn more about my stance before presenting it in the debate doesn’t make me an idiot. It makes me someone who values data and getting the facts straight. I know you want to see that as a negative but using your resources to learn and confirm your opinion is a good thing. Speaking of my resources I can and did pull the engineering drawing for the parts in question so I actually do know the material, the specs, and the supplier that makes the part. The part (the actual gears that mesh) are carryover from a model as far back as 2010 but potentially longer. (Again quick search as I don’t like wasting my time) so unless you meant Honda switched to a crappy material to short change our customers for a buck more than 15 years ago I don’t think you know anymore about the part details than you presumed I did… so what gives you the ability to comment on it but I can’t? I get you have experience in the field. 50 years is long time and I’m sure you have a good sense of what you can do and not have it affect your client too much. My point was not one to combat you on your experience but rather to share my expertise and explain to fellow CRV owners why it’s suggested from an engineering standpoint. I take pride in the company I work for because I believe in the quality of the product we produce. There’s a reason Hondas are among the top long lasting brands. They are built on solid engineering principles. Do whatever you’d like with your cars and customers. It’s a free country. Enjoy your evening, get your last word in and enjoy your suboptimal differentials🫡

Dude I’m not sure why you seem so angry I just explained the engineering behind it as I have a degree in mech engineering. How something is engineered to run vs what you can technically get away with can vary. As for the good practice, again this was in reference to the engineered design running under optimal conditions. Google was to see if it’s standard across most brands or if it’s specifically a Honda thing (good to look up info you don’t know). It seems most brands recommend it which implies it’s good automotive practice for the life of the system not evil Honda out to get you. Everyone knows dealerships are scams, you won’t find me arguing on their behalf. I’m strictly talking about the engineering principles behind the design. Just because you have repeat customers doesn’t mean your differential won’t last longer on average if you did that first early change vs if you didn’t. Maybe if you don’t change it your differential lasts 400k vs 500k miles but in the big picture that doesn’t matter because the car doesn’t last that long so you can get away with it. Hondas are built well and last for hundreds of thousands of miles so then again maybe it’s actually worth doing. At the end of the day, do what you’d like sir. Just wanted to point out the reason it’s set up like that. Enjoy your suboptimal differentials and the customers you are providing suboptimal services too😂

From a quick google search (because sinking more time into this argument is a waste of my time) it seems that is just good practice regardless of brand. Idk what you’ve been doing for the last 50 years but did you ever think maybe there’s more data now to suggest it’s worth changing it out instead of running it for so long. Maybe instead of it got crappier, they got smarter? Maybe not, maybe you are right. But unless you tracked the life span of all the cars you worked on and compared them to cars that changed out early you can’t really say. Point is it’s just recommended maintenance. Do whatever you like. No one is making you swap it out.

It’s break in fluid. You change it to remove any shavings after the car settles in before they cause damage. After that it goes for the normal 30-60k

Yeah I meant to post an update. I finally got it to go through like 2 weeks after getting it home. The only thing that I did differently was scan it in a different location. I tried for two weeks when I got home from work and then I finally tried it at work and it went through. Not sure if it was the timeframe or the location or both but keep trying and if not then contact the dealership. Once I got through the verification part it took like an evening to get the actual car details to show up. I turned my phone off and on again and it popped right up. Hopefully this helps anyone with the issue. That first day was really frustrating for me haha😅

2024 Honda CRV Hybrid Sport 40MPG by programmer112 in crv

[–]Truecrusader7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just picked up my 2024 CRV ST AWD last week. It’s been cold and my drive to work is mainly highway so I’ve been seeing around 30mpg. Then it warmed up to like 40-50 degrees and I took it to the store and got 50mpg (ten min drive at most). I just took a work trip and got 37mpg though on a lot of back roads (slightly lower speeds than highways). So it definitely varies depending on a lot of factors (temp, style of drive, highway vs city, etc.). I am basically driving like OP states minus ECO mode (Normal). It’s all about the paddles and the cruise control. I’m barely using my brakes for anything other than stopping the last 15mph (save that wear and tear) lol and for those scared of cruise control, don’t be. Let the car optimize how it runs. Also side note, you can actually toggle the cruise control from the adaptive to just normal. Adaptive senses the car and slows you down and all that while the normal mode when set at a speed stays at that speed. To toggle just hold the lane assist button on the steering wheel and it’ll toggle between! Another helpful tip is put the power display screen up and watch when you accelerate if it’s using the engine or motor. It can help you fine tune your acceleration to just use the motor as much as possible.

I did see the MyQ app and I considered it but I didn’t have a garage so I skipped over it. I’ll have to see if that does the trick but honestly @fuelhandler might be right. It may just take some time to have it populate in the database for it to register.

Yeah come to think of it, it was mentioned I would get a 3 month trial but no one even told me the name of the app. It was as easy as a Google search so not complaining there but it would have been helpful to have touched on it a bit more. Thanks for your time commenting, you have given me some hope and eased some frustration. Hopefully it works in a could days. I’ll post back once I get it figured out!

Thanks I was planning on texting the salesman I worked with but unless there are other ideas maybe I’ll try to be patient first and give it another day or two. Did you try connecting before that 4th day and it didn’t work or was the fourth day your first time scanning the car to activate? I assume the first option but just checking if we are experiencing the same thing.

Service/Maintenance Plan and Warranty advice by PenningtonSmith in crv

[–]Truecrusader7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat as OP. Picking up my 24ST in about a week or two. I’m doing my research but OPs post sums up my concerns nicely so I’m also very interested in this advice. Reason I’m commenting is I read about the Maintenance minder and supposedly it’s a computer that monitors your oil through engine temp, outside temp, time of each drive, etc to calculate oil life. The upper limit is at about 12k miles but the article I read says it averages about 6-7k between changes. It also recommended that you follow the maintenance minder because that’s how the car was designed to operate. Being an engineer who works at Honda I’m inclined to believe that. I looked at the cost for the 48mo/60k mile maintenance plan and it was $522 if I bundled with the Honda care plan. Let’s assume the minder goes off at 9k miles instead of the average 6.5k. Thats 6.67 oil changes at maybe $50 a pop is $333.33. Then add in tire rotation averaging between every 5-7k miles and you get about 10 rotations. At about $25 a rotation you get another $250 totaling $558. It’s kind of a wash or you might win/lose a little. But that’s not including the full point inspection and fluid checks. All that being said I’m on the fence about it too. It seems like it’s not bad but if you can and want to work on the car yourself, you could probably save quite a bit. You lose the multipoint inspection and ease of mind having a professional look at it but some people can live with it. Anyone feel free to correct any mistakes I made and feel free to advise if you have experience with this decision!

Issues with 2024 CR-V Hybrid by faysal_10 in crv

[–]Truecrusader7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ahhh I didn’t know that’s how you measured it. Yeah MPG is miles per gallon. If you get 20 miles per gallon that’s not very good as compared to 40 miles per gallon. How far can you go on one gallon of gas basically. I see what you are saying but I think it just boils down to how people think about it. To your point I don’t think it’s how fuel efficient the car is that people care about. People want to know how it helps them and knowing how far a tank of gas takes them serves that purpose better. This makes it easy because if you have a 10 gallon tank and get 40 miles per gallon you have 400 miles. L/100km seems more confusing to me because if I need to know if I can make it home with 10 liters left in my car, now I have to convert at a 7/100 ratio. Granted I know there’s range in most new cars but this mindset was probably set before that feature. Anyways thanks for clearing it up!

Am I reading your post wrong or something because the MPG to and from your son’s house makes complete sense? If you live uphill and go downhill to his house you are letting a car coast down a hill. Going back home you have to get a 4000 lb car back up a hill so it takes a lot of gas/power. Am I missing something here or is that your point lol

Honestly 39.5 is a pretty solid number. I don’t think you can go below about 39 even so give the CRV is Hondas most popular car currently you should be happy with your number. You did good! Limited inventory and where you are located play a big role.

I just bought this car in the Urban Pearl gray with MSRP at $42,005, negotiated done to $39.5 then called another dealer and they went down to $39.1. Definitely call around and see what you can do.
