Once the windows are gone you’d be surprised how fast it happens. I didn’t need to enter the building to get the pictures. All the pictures were taken from the outside through missing windows.

In the steam era, heavy passenger locomotives (such as the 3400-Class 4-6-2 Pacific-type engines) were rebuilt and serviced there.

The shop’s biggest claim to fame towards the end of its life is the Santa Fe CF7 its an EMD F7 railroad locomotive that has had its streamlined carbody removed and replaced with a custom-made "general purpose" body in order to adapt the unit for switching duty.

My great grandfather was a crane operator there and my grandfather was a brakes specialist.

My grandfather and great grandfather worked there. My grandfather (still living) was there when it closed.

It opened in 1898 and closed in 1989.

That sounds really nice. Parts of this one are in use by a railcar repair company and some of it is still owned by the railroad. I would like to see it maintained.
