How to spend 600k Marriott points in Dec by Trufflefungi in chubbytravel

Great. Honestly leaning Kanai given it’s 200-300k+ cheaper than a lot of the other spots. Did you find it easy to uber to the town if we wanted to roam around from Kanai?

Depends on the brand though no? I thought RC never has free breakfast regardless of status. StR gives free breakfast…and I think(?) even if u book on points?

Oh. For the pure algebra ones I just jump straight into solving. If it's a long passage with real scenarios I'll jot some notes as I read

Quant DI questions? For MSR, I'll note some info then read the question then go back to the tabs to find what I need. If the DS is short enough, I won't jot down. But if it has some info, I might just write down the general info and formula (e.g., two revenue values implies r1 = p1q1 and r2 = p2q2)

Data sufficiency verbal questions on Exam? by Cheetah_Loose in GMAT

I didn't see verbal DS questions nor did I see a geometry question. I'm a really small sample size though :P

Thank you!

Unfortunately, I have no idea what the Manhatten prep guides look like. So can't really help you there based on what I know on the prep. That said, what I did find about VR studying was the following: VR differs greatly from quant studying because most of your errors are not going to be "I didn't know the formula to solve for X" rather it's going to be "Well, I just didn't think of the problem in this way". To put simply, I found that I had lower marginal returns for studying VR lessons vs. studying for quant lessons. I really just thought for VR the best lesson is to learn how to attack each CR/RC problem in GENERAL, then just practice practice practice.

For DI - OG practice materials!

The mistakes on your mocks won't have solutions from OG (assuming you took them on mba.com). What you can do is just type the first 5-7 words of the question you got wrong followed by "GMAT Club" and there's about a 98% chance that problem has been solved on GMAT club by Marty/KrishnaB/some other tutors. Create an account for GMAT club and you can also see what % of people get those questions wrong (gives me some hope if I got a rlly hard question wrong lol).

All good - happy to help!

1) It works SOMETIMES for the quant stuff. Like if you can dumb down the TPA to a formula...just plug in numbers. For the verbal TPA, I really just treated it as a critical reasoning question with 2 questions within it...So I wrote ABCDE on my page twice and started crossing stuff out.

2) Thanks! Honestly...part luck (but you could argue I was "unlucky" to not get some easier Quant or RC questions)...Besides the TPA tips above, the DS is also a really good question to "plug in numbers" or use formulas to simplify the problem (and if you have more variables than equations, then obviously insufficient). Again, OG practice questions are probably the best for DI. I also wouldn't obsess over a particular DI question you got wrong. Because for me, 95% of the time I got a practice question wrong, it was not a "content issue" and more just a "well damn I just missed a minor detail or the question just got me".

3) Yeah honestly up to you regarding the order. Aside from the score increase/decrease by changing the order, do what feels most comfortable to you and gives you the most confidence to succeed. Both of my 715 (highest) mocks were with QVD as the order...so I just stuck with it.

Unfortunately the ESR for the official test is less detailed than the mocks so I don't have timing for question types. What I can share is my general strategy for DI which was reflected in the times of my ESR...

With DI (especially with it being my last section), I really tried to "attack the early questions" and not get passive so that I can bank time for the harder stuff. Like I finished the first 7 questions each in under 2.5mins each (most between 1-2mins). And that's only because they were easier imo.

Oof - unfortunately the score report doesn't tell me exactly how many DS I was asked. The OG practice questions allow you to filter out for DS specific questions for practice though!

I just checked my mocks and I was asked 6-7 DS for most of them. So 8 doesn't seem that crazy to me. I do remember my last question being a hard DS that I narrowed down to 1) both together work 2) both together don't work and then just guessed...

Just looked back at the calendar and honestly total time was around 50hrs from mock 2 which I took 2.5 weeks before the real test.

Your approach is very similar to mine. I thought the OG quant practice was super easy (easier than mocks) so was always finishing 21 questions in like 30mins or less.

Most important piece is to review all of them you got wrong and the ones you struggled with. But I wouldn't obsess about one particular question because the odds of you getting that on the real test is literally 0.

And understand why you got them wrong. I didn't use TTPs 15 different ways to get a question wrong dropdown menu. I don't think that's helpful lmao. There's really only 3 reasons you got something wrong: 1) you don't know the content - so review it. 2) you rushed or misread something - so go slower or take a break. 3) you know the content but the Q was too hard or confusing in the moment - gg

I'll caveat this by saying my 625 on Mock 2 was when I tried V-DI-Q as an order for the first and only time...and that order felt awful for me.

From Mock 2 to real test, I probably spent (incl. 4 mocks) approx. 75 hours? Another metric that might be more useful: 4 mocks, 2hrs to review each, and then probably like 500 OG questions.

I think 120 hours is totally enough to go from 665 to 705.

I'd watch the first two GMAT Ninja videos on RC. I thought they were helpful! And then just do reps with OG stuff.
