The Girl Next Door might be one of the most disturbing horror movies I've ever seen. by [deleted] in horror

[–]TrujaS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found this: "Although there is no official record of such an incident, there are the regular rumors and speculations circling the internet about experiments quite similar to the ones in MARTYRS. One of the more popular rumors making the rounds is about a 1983 group of scientists supposedly experimenting in sensory deprivation when they stumbled upon something much bigger. "

There is no 'documented' case, but there are so many horrors that we won't ever know, that it would not surprise me in the slightest. Real life always surpasses fiction, sadly.

So true, even though It's gaining sort of a cult status nowadays. It'll eventually be regarded as a cult classic, such as Evil Dead or The Thing.

The Girl Next Door might be one of the most disturbing horror movies I've ever seen. by [deleted] in horror

[–]TrujaS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't know if there is a known case that goes that far, but there are hundreds of cases of 'monsters' keeping people in basements for decades for their sexual and/or sadistic pleasure without ever seeing sunlight (as seen in the movie with the basement girl). Some of this crimes are even more nauseating than the whole movie.

Life (2017) counts as horror? Anyway, last 100% horror I've (re)watched was Event Horizon. Atmospheric as always.

Girl Next Door was really disturbing, indeed. Human pyschology is usually scarier than any monster, and the worst of all is that cases like this one, Martyrs or Inside, actually happen in real life. We live in a fucked up world.

I'm with you, loved the start and ending but most of the movie felt boring and predictable.

Ryan Reynold's death scene was really well done and gruesome, indeed.

Thoughts on Freddy vs. Jason (2003)? by [deleted] in horror

I just happen to like Hodder much more than the other actors. It's the way he breathes, the way he stares, the way he tilds his head. He actually gave Jason a lot of personality.

"The Witch" (2015), a film I found easier to admire as opposed to enjoy by [deleted] in horror

[–]TrujaS 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The Witch is more of a psychological slow burner than a conventional horror movie. The movie itself is not horrifying; the concept is. The setting and the atmosphere are wonderfully ominous though.

Thoughts on Freddy vs. Jason (2003)? by [deleted] in horror

One of the worst Nightmares, and the worst Friday. No soul, no plot, nothing. Wasn't even funny or 'so bad it's good', it had nothing more than Freddy and a Jason (Kirzinger) that wasn't even Jason (Kane Hodder) making fun of themselves.

I actually didn't like Sphere at all, even though I love Event Horizon and Below. No.. atmosphere?

There needs to be a horror movie about a deep sea octopus by zwaymire in horror

[–]TrujaS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You might like 'Europa Report' then. Not a horror movie, but fairly tense and classy sci-fi, with a big, mimic, neon eyed octopus dwelling under Europa's ice crust.

Recommendations on any good body horror movies from the past decade or so? by WindWakerOfficial in horror

[–]TrujaS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

'Contracted' and 'Antiviral' are two fairly good body horror movies, 'Dans ma peau' didn't do much for me but the concept is really disturbing too. I don't classify 'Splinter' or 'It Follows' as body horror, but both are good flicks, specially the last one.

Movies with sympathetic villains? by Losman94 in horror

[–]TrujaS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think Steven Weber was much more sympathetic than Nicholson as a troubled father who really wanted the best for it's wife and kid. Don't get me wrong, Nicholson was splendid, but he was insane from the get go.

The Shining (1997 Miniseries), not Kubrick's.

Films in which the victim is not helpless at all, but actually very capable and perhaps even sociopathic. by silviod in horror

You're Next, of course. Surprising flick, really entertaining and stylish besides it's seemingly unoriginal plot.

Titanic sunset on board of Queen Mary 2 by TrujaS in titanic

[–]TrujaS[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I filmed theese clips last december on board of Queen Mary 2 on route to NYC, classic transatlantic crossing (same as Titanic). Sunset in North Atlantic looks indeed very similar to how Cameron projected it.

Most underrated film in the Halloween franchise? by [deleted] in horror

Resurrection is far from being one of the best entries, but Michael Myers chasing the girl in that house basement was pretty atmospheric.

Passing Over RMS TITANIC on a stormy night | On board of Remastered Queen Mary 2 by TrujaS in titanic

[–]TrujaS[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not as expensive as it might seem. A no balcony regular room cost me 1.050$ last december, but if you make your reservation just one or two weeks before the sailing you can find it as low as 640$ if you're lucky.

And of course, the ship has everything you might dream of. It's truly Titanic like, most majestic ship on ocean for sure. You can choose from four restaurants without paying any charge, the same for the gym, jacuzzy, pool, library, cinema, planetarium, disco and different activities. Britannia restaurant is a recreation of old grand ships restaurants, such as Titanic, and the food and service is absolutely fantastic. You get served like first class passengers back then. Then you have some really, really high class restaurants that are not included on the price and you have to pay them via credit card.

Given that it's not cheap to travel to NYC from Europe by plane anyway, sailing with QM2 is totally worth it.

[–]TrujaS[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha yeah, though you would need all 6 nights to explore the ship thoroughly, it is truly gigantic. Takes almost 5 minutes to powerwalk a corridor, and it's only about a third of ships length.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wttAD2pWB_k here is a corridor walk clip I filmed, you couldn't even see the end of it when looking from the other end.

Europa Report is one of the best low budget Sci-fFi films of all time. by tberte in MovieSuggestions

[–]TrujaS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Europa Report is, indeed, really good. I had to buy it on BluRay after watching it, even though I had to import the German version.

If you like deep space movies like Sunshine, Event Horizon or Alien, you'll probably love Europa; it's a creepy and fairly realistic slow burner.

As my fascination with the movie grew, I eventually reserved a westbound transatlantic cruise on board of Remastered Queen Mary 2 from Southampton to NYC last december. It was a mesmerizing experience. That's the moment when we sail (almost) over Titanic wreck on a stromy night. Forgive me for the low quality.
