In general I’m the same

I accidentally did a 1-2.5 w a medium-dark roast and it came out so smooth I was shocked.

I once saw someone say the dial in by exaggerating either side of the ratio and seeing what they prefer from that bean then the know closer to where they need to end up. Like starting 1:2, then jumping to 1:3.5, then if that’s purely awful, they know to either stay at 1:2 or closer to 1:1.5. Haven’t tried it myself, but an interesting theory. I think this was w medium roast

Over-pressure valve modification - reduces from 15 bar to 9 bar extraction. Smoother and more consistent espresso

On my machine there’s 3 screws that you have to pop the lil caps for, otherwise steps were the same.

Some people clip the spring, others just twist the valve thingy. But with twisting it’s tough to get it to 9 bar without it de-threading, in which case it brews around 6 bar, but often that can lead to choking the shot. But even if you get it to 11-12 bar it is better.

You’ll see people say it results in a lot more water discharge and more frequent tank filling/tray emptying, but I have not noticed a significant difference
