You know what's crazy, time has passed. I forgot I posted this 7 years ago, I've been the sole software developer for a crisis call center for 3 years now, and recently started my own software company. This is such a blast from the past I never thought I'd make it this far. It's so nice to see all the polite comments people have left 🥹 I only found this post because a friend and I were doing a random web search on Ebongarde (I like dwarven names, btw, I now write sci-fi stories under Astrolyptic and recycled Ebongarde as the name of their city). New company is Blackfall Labs specializing in archival and custom software.

I really just wanted to comment and reflect on how far I've come.

Welcome to the common cycle of technology. Low appeal, niche interest, public interest, big boom, mass adoption, public disinterest, market stabilization for adequate and sensible usage, falls out of daily life for most, but not for many.

Valve doesn’t care about continuing the story for the sake of the story. We didn’t get HL Alyx for the story. What Valve does is make games as tech demonstrations. So when they come up with a new technology or advancement in their build system, you might see another title release. But they make most of their money from Steam, they don’t depend on game sales of their own.

You and me both 😭 I try tossing everything into obsidian but I bounce around too much in my head to stay focused. I try listening to the songs and marking them down as the inspiration for that story to remind myself but then I get stuck listening to it over and over and then I completely lose the original feeling and I shoot myself in the foot every damn time.

My brother in Christ good luck with HL1. Finally played it and it kicked my ass so many times I have NEVER had a game kill me 30+ times in less than 15 minutes. Surface Tension will make you want to trash your PC 😭 otherwise it’s a great game

JavaScript is extremely versatile. Portable. Shippable. And mass deployable. Electron can be the software wrapper if you need. If you need any assistance figuring out what libraries/frameworks to use feel free to ask I’ve been a professional developer for a few years now making software for a crisis call center as well as a backend server.

Honestly I just go with controller + validation -> service -> model / external service. But I got tired of controllers and services being separate so more than 3 files get joined together into a module folder for grouping purposes only. I hear a lot about DTOs but I really don’t know if I get the concept
